It has been a few years since we stayed at an Embassy Suites but this by far was the worse one and I would not stay there again.
The hallways are very noisy and housekeeping felt the need to yell to one another from one end of the hall to another during the afternoon. They may have just shampooed the carpets because the entire hall and even the room had a heavy soapy smell. The living room portion of the suites was very small but did contain a desk and counter with a coffee maker and microwave. The TV had a red stripe down the middle of the screen. Ice machine was at the end of the hall which is typical but inside a laundry room with no signage saying so. You also needed a room key to get in that room plus the plastic tray that hold the ice bucket was missing so you had to hold the bucket, the plastic bag, and push the button.
Happy hour is a joke. Although they did have free well liquor the food consisted of nacho chips and salsa, a feeble veggie tray, and some bowls of snack like chips and yuppie chow. Nothing hot at all. I don't expect a full blown meal but this was pathetic. I did order a club sandwich from a menu but is was marginal at best. The bartender from the real bar (not the happy hour bar) was great though. The happy hour bartender was too busy spreading her tip money out on the try to showboat that she expected tipped.
The worse part was the bath tub. The bottom is curved, not just the edges but the entire bottom and it was slippery. Both my wife and I slipped and almost fell. I was so afraid of falling that my shower consisted of a rinse and out in spite of a grab bar.
Good things? The bed was comfortable. They gave me two bottles of water at check in. The bartender. The place was clean but as mentioned it did have a heavy soapy smell, even the elevator. We had a very early flight out so we didn't have breakfast so no comments on that.
There are too many hotels right there by DTW to get stuck with a so so one. We chose the Embassy Suites because of previous stays with them elsewhere. I don't know that I would chance one again.
