Disappointed with recent stay after staying with them for years

Review of Crows Nest Inn
2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Aug 2022
I have been staying there for years as I visit Tawas in August for a yearly event. I was very disappointed this time. Apparently, there is new ownership. He is making room changes which are for the worse, not the better. The air conditioner is in the back wall over 8 feet high!! Impossible to reach. Impossible to use. I even, unsafely, tried to stand on the bed to turn it on. No point having it if you can't use it!!! It's hot in August. The "new" fridge no longer has even a small freezer area to keep the ice packs I brought frozen. The tv remote was comcast but the have spectrum service. I don't know if it was broken, needed new batteries or something else. Trying to get it to change the channels was very difficult and frustrating. I have been a loyal customer for a long time. I will probably need to change accommodations next time so I can enjoy myself. What is the new owner thinking? You will loose business.
Date of stay: August 2022
Room Tip: Bring your own Air conditioner.

This place must be under new management. Our stay was comfortable and clean. The room looked good (possibly freshly remodeled?). The Crows Nest is part of The Bay Inn so we were offered the free breakfast and use of the Pool & Hot Tub next door. The bugs are Fish Fly’s and are common to Michigan. They are every where along the coast so you get used to dealing with them. All in all it was very clean, comfortable and nice. We enjoyed our stay.

I read the reviews. It’s not horrible. We stayed one night as we were passing through town. Covid -19 precautions were all in place. Not the most fancy but very clean. Staff was very nice. We were skeptical because of the bad reviews but it’s really not bad. Needs updating but I would take cleanliness over updates anyway.

First, I did not stay here. was booked for labor day weekend through a non-refundable site. In the meantime my dog was injured and we could not leave him. I tried to cancel through Booking.com, and they told me since it was non-refundable room, that the owner had to make an exception for me. I communicated with the owner and he granted me the refund to the tune of $200.

Dingy, dirty feel to the room. Bugs on the door, windows and floor. Looked like pet pee stains on the carpet. The refrigerator freezer had no door, was filled with frost and offered no room for anything. Shelves were drooping. Lighting was bad too, the place felt creepy. Staff was rude. Owners also own the Bay Inn next door, so we moved out of this room and moved into the Bay Inn. Not great either, but clearly better than Crows Nest. Also overpriced based on chain hotels.
