I don't write many reviews for restaurants unless they truly stand out. Well the Thistle certainly stood out but not in a good way. My wife and were staying at Crystal Mountain and decided to have dinner here to avoid driving to Frankfort. We both ordered the ribs and were disappointed by the serving size and the quality of the meat (mostly fat). We had eaten at the Thistle a couple of years earlier and had a decent meal there. The value of the meal was terrible, you didn't even get a salad or a bowl of soup. If not for the service the rating would have been worse.

We visited for during our stay. Got a quaint spot next to window. Drinks were mixed well. Tenderloin appetizer to cook at table was very good. We both ordered burgers and we loved them. Buttered bun and homemade chips were also good. Service was top notch. Bread with olive oil & balsamic was amazingly good.

I have been visiting Crystal Mountain since before there was a Thistle. When first opened, Thistle was an amazing place to have a meal, grab a brew, or just stop in for an appetizer. Now, not so much. Unless one wants to purchase ingredients, prep a meal, cook a meal, then clean up after, Thistle is only place to eat at Crystal much of the time. Unless of course you want a pizza or sub sand. As such, they have become complacent. Don’t get me wrong, food is well prepared, but limited menu items which are overpriced. Their “signature” Mountain Burger will set you back $13.00 which is served with chips as fries add an additional $2.00.

Wait staff service is above average, but I have experienced very poor service. Kitchen is at times hit or miss. Recent visit, my friends Mountain burger, in his words, “excellent.” Myself, I had the pork belly flatbread which was pathetic. I tasted nothing but pesto, garlic and onion. On top of that, outer edge of flatbread was “burnt.” At least it is off the menu now.

We ate there 3 times, twice for lunch and once for dinner. The Thistle has a nice menu and good draft beer selections, including Guiness a Rainmaker Belgian-style Pale Ale by Stormcloud Brewing, which was great after skiing.

The Whitefish was good the first day's lunch, but did not taste as fresh the second day (big whitefish fan, btw). The Uusto cheese board was intersting and good. The Shrimp in the Pasta Arrabiato were tasty, but the sauce was not really spicy enough for my taste.

Service was good. Brittany our server was really personable and attentive.

The restaurant has a new pub feel with nice windows. The servers started out attentive, but the disappeared for a half hour. I was surprised by the extent of the fish dishes
