I have been going here since the late 1990's. I found it close to the house. In 2017 I still crave their chicken and peanuts in hot pepper sauce and tg ed princess chicken and shrimp. Love their hot and sour soup and the wonton soup. Their pork egg Foo Yung is delicious too! The lunch menu is made fresh to order and can't be beat. Entrees are generous and prepared fresh. Try it!!!

So far the best I have found for hot & sour soup in the cities.

Very friendly family run restaurant, great lunch specials and top notch take out, portions are large and very well packaged.

Lost 1 star as the facility could use a face lift.

We were in Bloomington and passed by 1st Wok, a humble exterior which must not discourage a visit to this truly wonderful restaurant. We got there at a bit of an odd time on Sunday, 2 PM. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but slowly patrons came in and it clearly included a few who knew of and had visited this restaurant over a long period of time. The person seated at the adjacent table had been visiting for longer than the server, a family member of the owners, had even been born!

The lunch menu offers many options and they come with a choice of soup. We both ordered poultry based dishes. They were expertly described by the server. This may seem like a small thing but for many restaurants in the twin cities, servers are familiar with the food and have to go to the kitchen numerous times to figure it all out. Not here. She knew exactly what the ingredients are, how they are prepared, and what options were available for substitutions. Well done! She was also extremely polite and friendly.

The egg drop soup was average, but my friend liked his hot and sour. We ordered Crab Rangoon as a starter. Delicious. They serve a sweet sauce and hot mustard with it. I recommend mixing the two together. There is also a chili oil with the soup than can be added to give the sauce a kick. It depends entirely on your tolerance to spice.

The appetizer was followed by two chicken dishes: Chicken and Peanuts in Hot Pepper Sauce and Triple Delight. The latter is a combination of beef, chicken, and shrimp, but we ordered it with just chicken.

Both dishes were delicious. We asked for each to be extra hot. Although they were still not that hot, they were delicious. The portions are generous and can quite easily be shared. Sharing is encouraged so that you can taste more of this restaurants wonderful food. Apart from the soup, the food is freshly prepared and that comes through clearly.

The other interesting aspect of the restaurant is that fact that it is family owned and it clearly comes through in their hospitality. To have three generations in working under the same roof at the same time was quite wonderful to observe.

This is a restaurant that you want to go to even if it is a special trip just for this.

First Wok is consistently the best food in town. The decor is basic it is always clean, friendly, and fast. The portions are ample even on the lunch special menu. I have eaten my way across most of the menu with no disappointments. Our best loved are the triple delight, Hunan shrimp, vehicle fried rice. They include white or fried rice with your entree but the fried rice is just rice with some seasoning you have to order a fried rice entree to get the real thing. It is worth ordering. We love to dine in family style or take out for lots of leftovers. The prices are dirt cheap for freshly prepared quality food. I think the lunch specials are like $8-10 including soup. We take home food for 5 with lots of leftovers for$45. I have been going to first wok for well over 25 years. Half of the employees are still there. Family run and worth a visit.
