We shared the Nigiri platter and a few small plates. Staff is very knowledgeable, which elevated our experience immensely. Ordered one of the specials, curry vegetables, and our server suggested the fried pork belly. That turned out to be our favorite of the night and, personally, one of my favorite dishes ever. Do not miss the crispy salmon salad, if you are a salmon eater. Divine! This is the freshest fish you will find anywhere. Decent environment, a bit noisy, but fine. Family friendly.

All of our food have flavors that weren’t standard or common. The menu states that they are authentic; I’ll take them at their word. Some of the flavors were subtle yet very present; almost Zen-like The pressed sushi was way too delicious. Good beer, sake & wine list (very good for the smaller size of the restaurant).

Speed of service was slow, especially when getting started. Server was engaging when present. Ambient noise level was quite high; the challenge to communicate across the table made it feel more like a nightclub than a restaurant. Slow speed and high noise level kept this from a 5.

Pricing was reasonable

The iwana roll was spectacular! The iwana has a lemony sweet flavor that pops with the shiso. Everything we tasted was very fresh tasting. We had the iwana, tataki, tamago, avocado, hotate Yuzu, Inari, and futomaki rolls. We will definitely go back! The happy hour specials are a good deal. The wait staff were all very friendly and nice too.

Our first experience dining at Kyatchi was a very pleasant culinary surprise! We are new to eating authentic Japanese cuisine, so relied a lot on our server for recommendations. We ended up ordering everything he highlighted on the menu as their best dishes, and boy was he spot on! The Zuke Bincho appetizer was elegant, simple, yet so flavorful and light! We also split a hearty bowl of the Ramen, the Shiitake skewer, and the Yakisoba Dog... all were superbly delicious!!! But the shining star of the night was the melt in your mouth Tara Shiro Miso Yaki, which was hands down the absolute best cod preparation we have ever had in our lives!!! We ordered several different kinds of Sake by the glass to pair with our meal, all of which were unique and tasty in their own way. We will definitely be back to Kyatchi in the near future. It is a must try kind of place!

Went to Kyatchi with my daughter who lives 5 minutes from the restaurant. She lived in SF before moving to Mpls. and was reluctant to go for sushi as she had the best in SF.
Kyatchi was a great and pleasant surprise. VERY fresh tuna in the sushi. Reasonably priced, too. 3 rolls and 2 glasses of wine.. bill was $48.00. The servers were also very friendly and responsive. I will be returning when I visit my daughter in the near future
