Sekeping Serendah - an eco retreat east of Serendah town and a 20 minutes' drive from Rawang. For me, it was an unforgettable first time experience - glamour camping in a tropical rainforest, albeit secondary forest.
I had the great pleasure to attend a friend's wedding held at Sekeping Serendah and thoroughly enjoyed a night's stay in the Timber Shed. My first time there, I went armed with insect repellent. To be 'extra prepared' for your trip, I would suggest reading up on basic tropical rainforest/outdoor survival skills. Close to waterfalls and Perigi Tujuh / Telaga Tujuh Serendah (Seven Wells), there are Orang Asli villages within walking distance of the retreat. This is a place to enjoy nature and the outdoors - recommended for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.
No WiFi, no mobile network coverage, no TV and no traffic congestion - a wonderful place to escape from the city and civilization. Here, I got to enjoy sounds of the forest and view the night sky without light pollution.
Tips:
1. If you bring your own food and supplies - do plan ahead and make a list. Meal planning! They have BBQ pits & barbecue equipment, stoves, fridges, kettles, basic cooking and eating utensils. Another option is to order the caretaker's meal.
2. Please store food in safe places - out of reach of dogs and monkeys. Food safety and hygiene outdoors is important.
There are 2 swimming pools in the retreat. The sheds/houses have electric lights, ceiling fans, mosquito nets, beds with pillows and sheets. In addition, there are showers and toilets (I brought my own towel, toiletries and first aid kit).
Personally, this was a 'back to nature' trip. At the end of my stay, I learned to appreciate the world and respect nature a bit more - a time to pause and reflect on the importance of forests and their ecosystems.
