Lovely escape but don't expect too much

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Dec 2017
Lovely weekend getaway about an hour outside of KL. Beautifully maintained and serene, but please don't expect this to be a luxury retreat. A few tips I found useful:

- Bring insect repellent. You'll need it.
- Bring a torch. Though they provide you with you, you can't be sure of how strong the batteries are and having one torch between two isn't very helpful.
- If you're going to cook, bring a knife and a dish cloth. Luckily we did, because their knife was too dull to be of any use and having the dish cloth to wrap the knife for safe transport and mopping up spills/drying dishes was incredibly useful.
- Bring FOOD! Esp. easily consumable ones. We brought so much cheese and crackers (there's a mini-fridge in the room), bananas (easy to peel and no need to wash), steaks for bbq-ing (kept in the fridge), salad, salt + pepper, and a mini bottle of champagne. They set up the BBQ for you within your own area so it remains very private, and having steaks and salad meant minimal clean up + prep.
- Bring towels. They don't provide you with any.
- If you're particular, bring extra bedding. Though I'm sure they're washed, the sheets + pillowcases aren't sparkling clean. I slipped my own pillow covers onto theirs but used their blanket and bedsheet.
- Bluetooth speakers. Reception is poor out there so download songs onto your phone and there's no reason why you can't have chill tunes piping through the jungle.
- Bring swimsuit! The pool was nice and if you're lucky you have it all to yourself. We shared ours with another group of people but that wasn't an issue.
- Expect bugs when you use the loo. Our was set in the great outdoors (yay, outdoor shower!) but also, there might be ants in the toilet bowl. Truly one with nature.
- Bring someone or people with whom you can spend quality time. Nothing worse than being removed from civilisation with people you can't stand.

Stayed 2D1N in Glass Box 1, Nov 11-12.

Room Tip: Glass Box 1 seemed a bit more private than Glass Box 2

Worst resort I've ever been. The management wanted to kick out a friend in the middle of the night even if we pleaded to pay for an extra bed or person. Be wary of the staff too. My girl friends received unwanted attention from them.

This place is just so beautifully landscaped and designed... To fall asleep to the melody of the forest and wake up surrounded by lush greenery. If that's your thing. You'll be disappointed if it isn't. Accommodations are open and airy, but spaced out in a way that pretty much ensures privacy.
A must for nature lovers and design/ architecture buffs. No frills on the service end but they are helpful. Bring your own food, towels and toiletries. You'll have the best experience if you can turn of your city mind.

The glass boxes and houses are just amazing to wake up in.

This is a place to let go and connect with yourself. Trash the phone screen and talk to the people in front of you. That's really what matters. Surrounded by greens, its not hard to find yourself immersed in nature. Absolutely a great choice to chill and relax.

Sekeping Serendah - an eco retreat east of Serendah town and a 20 minutes' drive from Rawang. For me, it was an unforgettable first time experience - glamour camping in a tropical rainforest, albeit secondary forest.

I had the great pleasure to attend a friend's wedding held at Sekeping Serendah and thoroughly enjoyed a night's stay in the Timber Shed. My first time there, I went armed with insect repellent. To be 'extra prepared' for your trip, I would suggest reading up on basic tropical rainforest/outdoor survival skills. Close to waterfalls and Perigi Tujuh / Telaga Tujuh Serendah (Seven Wells), there are Orang Asli villages within walking distance of the retreat. This is a place to enjoy nature and the outdoors - recommended for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.

No WiFi, no mobile network coverage, no TV and no traffic congestion - a wonderful place to escape from the city and civilization. Here, I got to enjoy sounds of the forest and view the night sky without light pollution.

Tips:
1. If you bring your own food and supplies - do plan ahead and make a list. Meal planning! They have BBQ pits & barbecue equipment, stoves, fridges, kettles, basic cooking and eating utensils. Another option is to order the caretaker's meal.
2. Please store food in safe places - out of reach of dogs and monkeys. Food safety and hygiene outdoors is important.

There are 2 swimming pools in the retreat. The sheds/houses have electric lights, ceiling fans, mosquito nets, beds with pillows and sheets. In addition, there are showers and toilets (I brought my own towel, toiletries and first aid kit).

Personally, this was a 'back to nature' trip. At the end of my stay, I learned to appreciate the world and respect nature a bit more - a time to pause and reflect on the importance of forests and their ecosystems.

Indeed away from the fast spaced world.

Location is far away from KLIA 2,about 1.5hours with taxi. Limited resources in term of food, got to bring in from outside. Limited wifi access which allows more interactions, bonding time. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Open concept of showering, Facing the forest. Cool concept which I have not experience as this kind of nature concept is not available in Singapore.

With the price, do not expect high standards of cleanliness and height standards of service. One in a lifetime experience 😁😁😁
