Stunning Oceanview Retreat and an Overall great stay... with some misnomers

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Nov 2023
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Boutique Siete Lunas last week and had an absolutely wonderful time. In fact, we enjoyed our time in Sayulita so much, we booked an extra night onto our stay before moving on to visit family in Puerto Vallarta.

I will start with the GREAT:
We booked the master suite and the room/view were worth every penny. The bed was super comfortable, the views over Sayulita and the bay were incomparable, the in-room Air conditioning was quick to cool the unit, and we slept fabulously. We could hear some music from the town across the water at night, but it wasn't loud enough to drown out the sound of the ocean. We slept like babies and woke up to the most stunning sunrises across the Bay. Based on the room alone we would stay again. If you're looking for romance and a bit of wow-factor, this room has it!

Now the GOOD:
The complimentary continental breakfast was simple, but nicely prepared and delicious. I really enjoyed the Green Juice.
The pool and shared areas are compact but well appointed and offer exceptional views.
The staff are friendly and attentive. The bar tender/chef makes a nice Spicy Margarita :)

Now the COULD IMPROVE:
Communication before arriving at the hotel was a bit convoluted. We booked via booking.com and received some fraudulent messages via the app, which in all fairness, were promptly caught by management. That said, the experience put us on a bit of a high alert re: online security, so when management switched communication from the booking.com app to Whatsapp aprox 12hrs before arrival, we were a bit thrown.

Pricing and quotation. Management would consistently quote pricing for add-on services in USD, but then charge in Pesos. Given that they are not offering a competitive conversion, this caused a few tense moments after receiving quotes for add-on services in USD and then being charged a higher price in Pesos at the time of billing. I suggest requesting all pricing in PESOS.

Beachfront vs Oceanview--- This hotel is not beach front, but does offer exceptional ocean and city views. The public beach is a 10-15 walk from the hotel, which we were completely fine with but those with mobility restrictions would struggle. We were clear from the website that the hotel is not beach access, but I can see how other reviewers felt mislead by the tagline "Exclusive Beachfront Hideaway"... "Exclusive Oceanview Hideaway" or "Exclusive Oceanview Jungalows" would be more precise in my mind.

That said, the good far outweighed the bad!

We would absolutely recommend Hotel Boutique Siete Lunas to those who enjoy vibrant locales full of nightlife, appreciate stunning panoramic views in an intimate setting, and don't mind staying a bit off the beaten path.
Date of stay: November 2023
Room Tip: 1. Get all quotes in Pesos 2. Be prepared to communicate via Whatsapp 3. This hotel is a 10-15...

Animals in the apartments:
- I attached a photo of cockroaches running on our clothes.
- I additionally attached a photo where we were bitten by bedbugs at night, because of this we went to the hospital when we returned to Canada.
- there are bloody stains on the curtains above the bed from crushed cockroaches.

Mold:
- in the photo in Booking everything is beautiful (for Instaphoto), but the persistent smell of mold is still on our things.

Mattress:
- on the 1st side, where the carved view is, it is so arched that you feel like you are sleeping in a hammock.

Cleaning:
- in 5 days the bed linen was not changed or the floors were washed.
- dead cockroaches were lying everywhere and were not removed (I attached a photo)

Beach:
- There are 2 beaches. It’s 7 minutes to the tiny one, and where they surf, it’s 25 minutes to it along a broken road one way.
- On public beaches, where there are 2 tourists and 100 Mexicans.
- We saw a fight between drunken Mexicans. It was terrible.
- There is a river at the surfing beach where people throw garbage and workers flush the toilet (WC on the beach). As a result, the water in the ocean is dirty and smells like a toilet. Attached a photo

Safety:
- next to the hotel in a neighboring hotel there live 2 dogs that constantly attack you in the evening (when it gets dark, you can’t see them, they attack because they bite). It turned out that we were not the only ones who attacked these dogs. I am attaching the correspondence on WhatsApp.

Bottom line: read reviews on Google. They are real. The hotel may have been good, but now everything has changed. I write without emotion. Just look at the photo and ask yourself, do you want this?

Room tip: The room is full of cockroaches and there is a terrible smell of mold

Thank you for sharing your comments on booking. We work to make our Hospitality a special ingredient during your stay.
Reading your comment, I am sorry that the choice of your purchase was not the right one. In all the advertising channels of the hotel the location and concept is mentioned. It is a hotel on a hill in the middle of the jungle with a high degree of humidity, located in a jungle environment, the concept of the rooms is mentioned and there is also visual information in photos: "Jungle environment. Suites with thatched roofs. Property with sustainability efforts. An area in the middle of the jungle where the jungle generates humidity, heat and is characterized by a diversity of insects such as ants, flies, butterflies and stick insects, among others". The concept of the hotel as mentioned "thatched roofs" generate at all times the crumbs of straw and are distributed in the highest areas inside the room. During your purchase process the hotel automatically generates a confirmation message to your email address mentioning recommendations on the type of access you have to the hotel, the area surrounding the hotel location and other recommendations. You have the option to contact the hotel for further details about your purchase and service details during your arrival. Within our attention and hospitality we were always attentive to your requirements, and until the day you decide to leave, you tell us about the situation of "cleanliness, the bed and everything you indicate" at that precise moment we offered you our full support to reinforce these incidents generated by the environment where the hotel is located. We were unaware of their dissatisfaction when on several occasions our team of collaborators asked them if everything was in order. If your dissatisfaction was the wrong choice of purchase (Sayulita destination) we regret that the jungle environment has generated all these incidents in your stay and that the people who visit Sayulita generate a perception for you about the beach, the town and its customs as you list in your comment.

Misleading website! Not a beachfront spa hotel! No onsite spa. Nice VIEW of beach & nearby bay. That’s all. Located on jungle hillside. Very steep walking path to get to rooms. No elevator. Tiny “pool.” Need car. Unpaved narrow rugged road to hotel treacherous. Refused to refund early departure. Booked 6 days; left after 4. We tried to make it work. Hot, very humid (September). Beach water dirty & too warm; not refreshing. Local vendors constantly hawking their products. Major disappointment!

We appreciate your comments, our job is hospitality and we regret that the choice of the destination and the hotel was not the right thing to do.
In all the advertising channels of the hotel the location and concept is mentioned. It is a hotel in a colima in the jungle, the concept of the rooms is mentioned and there is also visual information in photos. The concept is very obvious. There is even mention of some rooms overlooking the bay that can be seen in the photos: "Jungle environment. Suites with thatched roofs. Ocean views. Rooms with mountain and garden views. Property with sustainability efforts".
Upon completion of your Non-Refundable purchase, the hotel automatically generates a confirmation message to your email and again mention recommendations on the type of access you have to get to the hotel, the area surrounding the hotel location. You have the option to contact the hotel for more details about your purchase. We are sorry to hear that your purchase decision was not the right one.

We had a fantastic romantic getaway to Siete Lunas! The location is stunning and our room was very comfortable. The hotel is very convenient to town if you don’t mind walking a bit (or rent a golf cart). The staff is amazing and helped make it a beautiful stay.

My partner and I decided to do a spontaneous 5 Day get away to the pacific coast of Mexico and decided to stay at Siete Lunas in Sayulita. I have to say we were very impressed with the location, room and the overall service we recieved from the staff during our stay.

Here are some positives from the stay:

- The staff were amiable and responsive to any messages or inquiries both before and during our stay
- The rooms are spacious, equipped with AC, and have the most fantastic view of the beach and cove
- The location was perfect for a couple's trip. It was a 10-minute drive from town up the road
- Beds were made, and rooms were always kept tidy

A few things to note about the location:

- it is located up a dirt path from town, some 10 minutes via car. I would recommend having a car to go back and forth, especially at night
- You are in a bungalow in the jungle, so a mosquito or two might get into the room, especially if you do not shut the door at night
- You sometimes can hear the music from downtown Sayulita at night

Overall it was a wonderful experience, and I recommend it to any couple looking for a 5-7 Day stay.

We really enjoyed this lovely, quiet, boutique hotel. The view of the bay is breathtaking. The staff is wonderful, friendly, and accommodating. I was battling a head cold, and the chef even suggested a special soup to help me get over my cold. He whipped up a yummy recipe and I felt much better.

They’re only seven cabanas and you’re not surrounded by tons of people, so it truly is quiet inmate place. On the weekends, you can hear music from the clubs and establishments in the main town Sayulita,If you want to check out this site, it’s just a few minutes walking distance away.

Tip-if you are the type of person that likes to style, your hair , the rooms do not include a blow dryer .

Room tip: Be ready to hike up a small incline as the cabanas are not ground level. We went in December -no mosquitoes. Taje repellent in hot weather
