“Great place for a short visit”

We were here with friends and so we had an amazing time. Here though are three tips if you go

1. If you love walking the beach is small and the hills all around are steep.
2. Sayulita is a small town and is only an eight dollar taxi ride away. Fun town, great food etc.
3. The waves are gorgeous but loud and they never stop.

This is a very unique place and if you love that this is a must try. We were there 8 days and that was a bit long for us.

My husband and I are just finishing our week-long vacation at PlayaEscondida, and I could not wait to leave my review. We try to take a similar vacation each year, where he can surf, I can do yoga, we can get some pampering at the spa and eat good food in a relaxed open-air setting, and this was the perfect spot! Yoga on the beach each morning with Marisol was fantastic (a take on Bikram but she mixes it up each day). We both had a couple of different massage treatments, experiencing both Eva and Elsy, and they were both amazing for deep tissue. As for the surf, the hotel staff hooked us up with a group in Sayulita called WildMex and Steve, Trevor and the whole crew were awesome. They would pick you up in the morning or afternoon and take you to the best breaks for that day, and were accommodating to all experience levels. Sayulita is a great little laid back town, known for good surf breaks but it is definitely worth venturing into town at least once to experience the shops and good eateries. Back to Playa Escondida, we stayed in Villa 3 and it was heaven. We had amazing views of the ocean (with several whale spottings and incredible sunsets) from our room and private terrace and even the lovely shower looked out on the water. This was the perfect accommodation for us, extremely private, with your own access point to the beach and your own little private pool, just for the four Villas. We did bring our 8-month old, which I don't believe the hotel typically allows during peak season, but they were so accommodating to us, having a car with a carseat ready for our airport transportations, and including a pack-n-play in the room for the baby. At night the restaurant staff would go above and beyond to bring us dinner up on our private terrace for the Villas, so that we could eat and still be close to the baby sleeping in our Villa. :-) We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner most days at Playa Escondida and all of our meals were wonderful (the guacamole, the ceviche, the spring rolls, all are standing out, all so Yum)! I won't be able to remember everyone's names, but Jorge at the beach bar and Thomas and other wait staff were all SO friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home and completely taken care of! We can't say enough great things about this place, a favorite for sure!

Room Tip: Villa 3 was spacious and very private with incredible views and private pool and beach access. We pe...

My husband and I flew down for a quick 3 nights, our longest trip away from our 4 year old son. It was truly spectacular. The spot is amazing. We stayed in SOL 1 and I highly recommend it. It has wide sweeping views of the ocean, totally open space with hammock, wonderful loftly bed and great beach access down a quick flight of steps. We relaxed as soon as we got to our casita. This is definately not the 4 seasons. But it is also not 4 season's prices. It is not perfection - there are small funky things about the place and the service is not perfect but the people who work there are so nice and easy going and really want you to have a great time. And the location is truly stunning. The design of the room was wonderful, authentic, cool and different.

The food was truly awesome. I didn't expect that it would be so excellent but it was. Really fresh and delicious. We kept meaning to go into Sayulita for a meal but couldn't imagine having better food. Excellent Margaritas too! The best massage ever - EVA is amazing and the prices were reasonable. We truly relaxed beyond what we imagined. We sat on their lovely beach, did their yoga every morning (really tough yoga instructor teaching Bikram), took an awesome surf trip they organized and trekked into Sayulita (20 minute hike) to get a little hit of civilization. But we were always so glad to be back at Playa - it was a deep breath.

The dining service is incredibly slow so don't go there starving. Give yourself time, get a drink, take in the stunning outdoor dining setting and get some of the guac - it is to die for.

Go for it - worth the reasonable prices!
Blissed out.

Room Tip: Sol 1 was amazing.

First off, if you equate excellence with grand fountains and marble columns upon entry into your 5 star resort, this is not your place. If you prefer low key, 'open' rooms with the sound of the ocean right out your window, the friendliest customer service imaginable, a truly unique jungle/beach setting, and a place with really good food, Playa Escondida is your place. First off, let me give the counterpoint to bocasdude's opinion on the food-- we ate 75% of our meals at Playa Escondida, mostly consisting of more local cuisine, and without exception, they were fantastastic. Of particular note was the Pork Pasole and the Lobster. Truly one of the best meals we've had in Mexico, which we've been visiting for over 25 years. Shortly before our arrival Jennifer had just been put in charge of the restaurant and it is clear this is a point of pride for her. I believe she is now in charge of more than just the restaurant, which certainly can't hurt the overall appeal of this place as Jennifer is clearly a very knowledgeable, engaging, and service oriented manager. There were several others we met during our stay who really made us feel at home, including Jose, Jorge, Tony, and all the lovely ladies at the front desk. We will certainly be back to enjoy the incredible hospitality of fine people at Playa Escondida!

Stunning flora and fauna, beautifully designed setting, utterly relaxing treatments, very good food, very special drinks, great service and wonderful staff. In one word - Paradise!
The best vacation we've ever had. Thank you for having us.
