My husband and I visited in early November to celebrate our recent marriage. The hotel was beautiful, all the staff we interacted with were superb, but Donyel Fields in the Concierge Lounge just absolutely made our trip. He was very engaging and not only had great suggestions for local spots, but also had a special treat for us one night as well. And we enjoyed an awesome night of karaoke in our own private room at Off Key thanks to his suggestion! This hotel is a must stay if you are coming to the Plaza!

My husband and I attended the same conference as the previous reviewer.

Finding your way around this hotel was confusing! There are two separate elevators depending on which part of the hotel you were staying. We were in the tower, which meant going to another bank of elevators for the parking garage. There is signage, but it is small and few and far between. And PLEASE, re-paint the signs in the parking garage....the orange ones are very faint.

We had a nice view, and the room was clean and attractive. We opted out of maid service for the first day, but they didn't come the second day until close to 5:00.

We drove to the hotel, and weren't really sure where to go. There was a lot of construction on the road in front of the hotel. We had to drive around to find the parking garage. There was free parking, which was a definite bonus.

If the idea was to streamline the front desk...it was almost TOO streamlined. It looked like the bell station or concierge desk. We almost walked right by it.

The hotel is within walking distance of upscale shopping and restaurants. Lovely, lovely homes and a beautiful park going up the hill from the back of the hotel.

We ended up leaving a day early, and got charged for that extra night we had originally booked. We found the extra charge on the receipt that was e-mailed to us a few days later. We were not charged for this when we checked out. That is an issue we will take care of on our own, but be sure to check your statements afterwards.

Nice hotel, but doubt that we will be back.

Dear Kathleen Rene,

Thank you for your feedback.

It’s great to hear that you enjoyed your newly remodeled guest room, found it to be clean & attractive, and were able to take in the incredible view of the Plaza.

We regret that you had difficulty finding your way around the hotel. As you indicated, there is signage in all areas and it is very rare to hear comments about directions being a challenge. The city was doing some minor construction in front of the hotel for a couple days earlier this month, but neither one of the entrances to the hotel’s parking garage, or the front drive, was obstructed in any way.

During the renovation, we converted the front desk to pods, which is the trend in the industry as it allows a more personalized level of service during the registration process. The design is very similar to the bell station, but the staff is uniformed differently and there is also signage to differentiate.

The hotel does have an early departure fee, as does every hotel full service hotel in the Kansas City area. Guests are made aware of this fee during the reservation process and it is clearly noted on the registration card. Guests are able to change the scheduled day of departure up to, and during, registration without any additional fees. When a guest departs the hotel without checking-out at the front desk, there is not an opportunity for our staff to remind them of the charge.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and we’re glad you enjoyed the hotel. We do invite you to stay with us again the next time you are in the area!

Sincerely,

Don Breckenridge

Matutani O'Neal was excellent in serving me during the conference last week, she took care of all of us during each meal break.

I would highly recommend any business Conference be held here.

You really must try this place, there are many luxury shops nearby for your family to enjoy.

First and definitely not the last time visiting this hotel. Great location with a beautiful hotel that serves delicious food and drinks, but most important is the staff is superb!
We were here on a mini honeymoon and our visit was MADE thanks to Don Fields the hotels concierge! He is a person that LOVES his job and takes great pride and it shows. He had great presence in the lounge and offered wonderful tips on where to visit as well as had something special for us one evening at Desserts with Don to celebrate our marriage. We cannot thank him enough and highly recommend everyone to visit this hotel.

Dear abirnley1,

First off, congratulations on your wedding!

Thank you for choosing the InterContinental Kansas City at such a special time, and for sharing your feedback on TripAdvisor.

It’s always great to receive feedback from a first time guest, and it’s certainly nice to see the word “amazing” in your description.

We’re extremely proud of the extensive renovation completed this summer. The feedback we are receiving is that our product and location is unmatched in the area. With that said, we fully understand that it’s the service that truly distinguishes a hotel and keeps guests coming back. Your feedback was reviewed with Donyel earlier this evening and he was thrilled to learn how much you appreciated his service. He is a very valued member of our concierge team and specializes in providing a personalized level of service that makes a difference.

We’re all anxious to welcome you back, so please stay with us again soon.

Once again, congratulations and best wishes!

Sincerely,

Don Breckenridge

Not quite a five star place but it is definitely a cut above average. Room was spacious and nice view. Close to several nice restaurants and shopping areas. The newly remodeled cafe/bar was a
Little bright to my taste but food was good.
