For the past 15 years when in Belgrade-Bozeman Montana we'd stop for a great steak in an old fashioned western steakhouse , The Mint Café and Bar on Main street in Belgrade. Always overflowing with a busy crowd seeking great beef in many cuts we returned in June 2016 to see sad changes in the menu. Gone is the steak house although the monogrammed MC leather sofas and chairs remain,. The back space has been opened up for apparently fewer tables and fewer customers.
As we read the menus we were surprised at only 3 cuts of steak offered. The menu seemed short with about 8 entrees. The service proved quite weak as it was first night for an unsupervised waiter. He forgot to tell us about specials until after our order was in even though we asked him about specials! He was unaware of the happy hour specials which was posted on the way to the restroom. We delayed our order to ask for the happy hour special of beef sliders at 2 for $5.00 ..If we had known better, we would have reordered other entrees. The sliders were the best part of the meal with fresh rolls and beef lightly cooker, so flavorful and juicy .

Having come for steak, it was disappointing when only one chose the steak., a small filet mignon ( $ 27) which appeared smaller than the stated 6 oz. Tasty but very small. About the size of the patty in the slider. Others got the shrimp and chorizo rice dish which was more rice than flavor. Shrimp were small. ( $16.50) The beef stroganoff stated as "sirloin steak tails" had dry hard bits of steak in a beige thin sauce unlike any stroganoff served elsewhere, missing the sour cream and rich brown sauce with chunks of beef , all missing here .Rather insipid
The service continued bumpy with unfilled water glasses and uncertainty.
This proved not the traditional steak house in Belgrade for decades. The new owners and chef have taken the brightness out of this restaurant with perhaps less expensive dishes but no value.

Had probably the best wedge salad I've ever had and the fries are clearly made in house. My kids chicken nuggets had to of been breaded in house as well. I'm so glad we tried The Mint, definitely a favorite in the Valley!

Friendly service and GREAT food. The place to go in Bozeman/Belgrade. Lively spot with regular live music in bar. Had the beef stroganoff and it was the best I've had. They make it fresh for each order. Great draft list, excellent cocktails. Worth the drive.

Four of us went for our daughter's birthday. Each had a different entree and all were extremely pleased. Food was fabulous . Server was gracious and very knowledgeable about the menu as well as the history of the restaurant. I personally had the bison filet and it was the best filet of any sort I have had. Would definitely go back.

My husband and I were impressed by The Mint on a second visit. For starters, our Martini was mixed to perfection and delicious with the shrimp cocktail, which had nice quality prawns and a zesty sauce. The 16 oz tenderloin that we ordered "on the rare side of medium-rare" was exactly that - excellent quality beef with a flavorful char on the outside and tender bliss on the inside, topped with a compound herb butter and accompanied by a yukon gold mash. It was the star of the show. we also ordered their version of beef stroganoff as a second entrée, sirloin tips and mushrooms in a dark au jus style sauce over linguini, topped with sour cream. It had a good wine-savory flavor and the mushrooms were the stand-out in the dish. We were very happy that we gave this rebirth of The Mint a second try. It did not disappoint.
