We had a good night's stay at the Soda Butte Lodge the night before heading into Yellowstone. Perfect for being in Lamar Valley at first light. It's an older property, but our room was clean and comfortable. The room windows opened up to the back of the property which is literally the forest and a creek running right behind the lodge, so we slept with the windows open to the cool air and it was great! Be aware, the cell service is very limited in the entire town so just be prepared.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the rear of the property for the forest/creek views.

The room was fine, very clean, and the bed was comfortable but the walls were thin! I could hear the couple's conversation next door pretty clearly. After they went to bed it was very quiet. There was free Wi-Fi but it was pretty spotty. I could get some reception in the lobby. Admittedly we were lucky to have any. There is not any cell service in this isolated area. There is a restaurant and bar associated with the hotel. There are, additionally, a few good cafes surrounding the hotel if you need an alternative. The hotel put out hot water and coffee with a few pastries and fruits for early risers. The hotel is just 4 or 5 miles from the park entrance.

I stopped in for breakfast as I was traveling through. The Eggs Benedict are worth the trip alone! The English muffins could have used some more toasting, but overall, these were the best I've had. No wimpy Canadian bacon here, this was a perfectly grilled and crisped ham steak. The eggs were poached perfectly and lightly seasoned with paprika and doused in a generous, but not overwhelming dose of hollandaise. The O'Brien potatoes served along side were delicious, including peppers and onions.

The hotel was welcoming and clean and the rooms well appointed and spotless. Very very comfortable beds. Late night arrivals were a little noisy but although we were on the front ground floor there was no noise from the street or parking area. Food wasn't cordon bleu but was plentiful, well cooked and served with a load of western charm and enthusiasm. Although no tea/coffee making in the rooms there was free drinks, fresh fruit and selection of muffins available in the lobby. There is free wifi both in the rooms and the communal areas although the lobby area was best for reception, you are asked not to use video or audio access presumably because of poor reception or the fact that it clogs the system however we had no trouble facetiming early in the morning. Great base for exploring Yellowstone National Park and the beautiful state of Montana

Room Tip: Ground floor back rooms will have best views and saves lugging the cases upstairs

I stayed here one evening on a trip to Yellowstone. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was quite nice. Good restaurant for dinner and breakfast. WiFi was a bit slow, but in a town that generally has no cell phone service at all, it's nice to have WiFi.
