“Hidden Gem Just Off Strip To The West”
Reviewed 1 March 2012

I stayed at the GC from Friday Nov 11th to Tuesday Nov 15th. It was a busy weekend with it being 11/11/11 so hundreds of weddings were happening, add in the Marquez vs Manny fight. I got to the GC close to 6:30pm, and check-in was quick. Small front desk but no line up. This was my 3rd time staying at the Gold Coast (Jan '09, May '11, Nov '11), and I have never been disappointed.
The rooms are big, I have only stayed in the standard room, with a flat scfreen tv, comfy beds. The bathroom is small, but I don't mind really. Room is clean and seems quiet each time I am there. The casino is laid out nicely, easy to navigate with lots of slots. The buffet I enjoy for breakfast and it is really cheap. TGIF is a decent place for even a late night eat as it is open 24 hours. I like the fact they have a free shuttle, you go to The Orleans first then to The Strip. Seems most of the people on it when you get on, are getting off at The Orleans. I believe 30 people can only fit so make sure you are there early. Coming back you may not get on as the dop off/pick up beside Bill's Gamblin Hall gets quite the line up. Sometimes I will take the bus back, or maybe walk in the day.
The Rio and Palms are right next door and across the street so if you are more for gambling, you really have no need to go to The Strip. As well with all 3 properties, lots to choose from to eat. Best thing is, the walk to and from your oom is not like the mega resorts where you need a golf cart. Easy short walk.
The staff are terrific at GC, always pleasant and helpful. I am looking forward to my next stay for the Memorial Day weekend.

Only drawback is, if you are out on The Strip past midnight, you will need to cab it back, so your best bet is get to Bally's or Bill's and grab a cab, it will be a short jaunt and less expensive.

This casino hotel was a Best stay for me and my family. Premium rooms have a large (r) bathroom with a large wrap around counter. Flat screen TV. 2 Queen nice mattresses. The blanket is not good. ( think bad bumpy blanket..) Loved the security in the hotel. The buffett is good for breakfast but adequate for lunch. I didnt have dinner there so no review for that. The casino is L shaped so not so much to get lost. I gambled a bit at the Coast but did not win so much. The Orleans had much better pay offs. The shuttle is good but does fill up fast. For some reason people that get to the shuttle seem not be able to recognize that other people are there before them so they cattle shoot the shuttle. I think the Coast needs to put in a Line system. Stay above 4th floor. Ask for North East facing room. We were in # 458 bout 3/4 down the hall on the west side. the East side will prolly show more Vegas lights. We saw the Stratsophere but thats about all. Enjoyed my stay at the Gold Coast.

Valet/check-in/arrival at room was without incident and fast. My first trip to this slightly off strip casino/hotel was in '88 when it opened and I've probably returned a handful of times over the years. The rooms are adequate though the bathroom facilities are small. Everything was clean and everything worked. Flat screen TV, decent bed, a window that opened, a rudimentary coffee maker setup, and plenty of hot water.

The lobby has been remodeled and the old coffee shop is now a TGIF. The Cortez room serves up some good if somewhat pricey but well prepared chow. The buffet is large with plenty of choices but nothing out of the ordinary. I used it for breakfast mostly and dinner once. The dinner buffet was probably the less impressive of the two. A very nice selection of desserts. The TGIF is about what you'd expect.

Table minimums in the casino were five dollars. Lots of Pai Gow type games - seems to be their thing as well as baccarat and a couple of five dollar crap tables, Three Card poker, Blackjack etc. No Let It Ride. Tons of slots. For slots I prefer Laughlin as they are markedly looser. The accountants have really screwed those Vegas machines down tight. All in all a pleasant place just far enough away from the strip that the table minimums are doable. Rio and the Palms are just across the street. Hourly shuttle service is available to the strip. Certain top shelf liquors are no longer comped at the bar when you're playing the machines.

Room Tip: The nice thing about this property is that being smaller the tower is an easy walk to the casino unl...

35. Favorite Casino? Gold Coast
36. Why is the casino you selected above one of your favorites? my family has been coming from new york to the gold coast for 27+ years and we love the way they treat us and how laid back it is when you just want to get away from the busyness of vegas

43. Did you experience any issue, concern or perhaps something extraordinarily pleasant on your latest visit to the Gold Coast? Y - Yes
44. Please describe the circumstances: on our last day there the slot host said he didnt want us to leave and gave us another free night and then dinner at the cortez room

The Gold Coast is a cool place to stay if you are looking for an off-strip but not too far out of the way location. It is an older property that has seen some nice upgrades including the guest rooms. One high point of our stay was on the check in, Jane who works at the guest registration desk was very nice and accommodating. We will stay there again…
