The night that I arrived the reception smelled of smoke. The receptionist was sort of welcoming but seemed more interested in having an argument with another member of staff than serving me. The decor is worn in many places. The bedroom smelled, presumably of other guests cooking. It was a busy weekend in Reno and therefore the prices had been pushed to the extreme. Probably the worst Marriott experience of my career.

On the east coast, I love Residence Inns. This one is similar to the older western US Residence Inns that tarnish Marriott's good name. Not terrible, I gave it 3 stars. But a bit dingy, old, unkempt. They did the bare minimum furniture remodeling in the rooms, but everything else leaves more to be desired. Old carpet, old furnishings, old elevator, old paint, dingy exterior...just not the pride of the Marriott portfolio of properties. Bathroom has only one switch...turn on the light AND the loud vent fan.

The key readers eventually work if you're willing to swipe a few times. So after driving your car around the side, trying to get into the building with your key in the 25 degree cold, you can see why the key reader not working can cause some concern.

On top of it all, I had to park across the street at the Marshall's. The property didn't have any spaces left. This was a Monday night 3/5.

Friendly staff is what salvaged the 3 stars.

Dear JFerly,

Thank you for posting your comments. Your observations on the age and condition of the hotel facilities are noteworthy and relevant. Marriott management and the hotel ownership group are aware of these conditions. Plans are underway to include capital improvements to the property. I look forward to providing our guests with updated features in the near future.

I came here for a trip in early October and I have stayed at many residence inns in the past. This place has big rooms, a good layout, and good ammenities. The rooms are looking a bit dated and could be cleaner. I had to change rooms once when I checked in due to these issues.

The staff here were nice when I asked for an upgrade. Unfortunately, they had no two bedroom rooms available so they could not upgrade us but she was nice about it when I asked. The room is decent for Residence inn but a little on the small side for a one bedroom. It was clean though and looked like the couches were newer. Kitchen also looked recently remodeled. We left too early for breakfast so I cannot comment on that but it looked like a typical Residence inn breakfast. My son forgot his toothbrush but the front desk gave us one and it was a real toothbrush not just a super cheapo.

we have been going to Natomis (Sacramento) CA Residence Inn for 6 or 7 years now. Change is part of life however, this visit the change was to the point that we may never return. There was no longer candy in the glass jar to welcome our grandchildren, the pool and Jacuzzi heater were not working with a notice saying there is no date as to when it will be fixed. Okay I get it things break. I will go on to the morning breakfast. Appears the front desk is operating this area now. There are no longer little milk containers for cereal or to drink, in a pitcher now. The soda fountain is gone so the only access to water is also in a pitcher shared with everyone's hands, there was no regular coffee at 9:30 and the trash cans were overflowing. This was Saturday Morning. Sunday at 9:15 there was no waffles, no bacon, no plates, no forks, no sweet rolls, no mixed fruit and had to wait for eggs. The clean up started at 9:40 and this complementary service is until 10:00 on weekends. Additional people walked in at 9:45 and saw mostly everything put away and got their coffee and left. Yes there was coffee. One additional item, is my husband enjoys a good cigar when we get to weather where he can have one outside and now this property is a smoke free zone. I know that will not bother most people though. At room charges of 189.00 and 199.00 the cost was okay as My remembrance of this Residence Inn has always been a good memory until now. Thank You

Dear Kris L,
Thank you for posting your comments regarding your recent stay. I apologize that the hotel is busy and did not meet expectations from your previous visits. Changes do occur and they are designed to address changes in the traveling industry. Regarding smoking, the hotel has created smoking areas as a courtesy to smokers. In Nevada, hotels are considered to be public buildings and smoking is not permitted within 25 feet of an entranceway in a public building. The hotel will review all of your comments for future consideration. Regards, TimB
