We ate here after arriving st the accommodation late. Decent looking menu but limited veggie options. We went for soup and bread and a beer. Food arrived after a short wait. Delicious and filling. Service was friendly, interested and professional. Fab setting, rustic and a bit quirky, in the hills.

The place was recommended to us. And so glad we had dinner there.
The atmosphere is an old barn. We ate up stairs in the loft looking out over the field.
Pretty tea lights throughout the barn, the fire place and hanging moose head makes it quite romantic. Great for families too.
Service was very good.
Food: great menu with lots to choose from. We got classics for $16. I enjoyed the Yankee Pot Roast. It had lots of tender meat. Others got the fish N'Chips, Sheperd's Pie, and fish. No rolls were served but the meal was big enough so bread-- not needed. We split an appetizer. Full bar too.
Would I return-- yes, if I am in the area.
Enjoy.

Great place at the base of attitash mountain. Great for friends to laugh and enjoy a good drink with good food. It's in a red barn and was also romantic. Worth the visit

I arrived at Shovel Handle with a friend ready to order a few beers and wait on our take-out order (kids and family were at a rental cabin nearby waiting for dinner). The place looked cool and we could smell the food outside. What happened next was something I've never experienced at a restaurant.

The place was largely empty save seats at the bar (the lower portion of the restaurant was closed). There were three friendly people at the wait station. We asked to order take-out and were told they don't make food for take-out and that the kitchen was busy (unclear how - half the restaurant was empty and the people present were drinking). They also do weddings but we literally needed a few sandwiches. If you're hosting a wedding and can't make food, then close the restaurant down and leave the bar open.

Elevation of our question to a manager resulted in the same response. Too busy/no take-out. We would need to stay and eat or nothing (unclear what would happen if we had ordered and then asked for a box). You apparently need to encumber table space and wait staff to eat - you cannot purchase food and leave.

All we wanted to do was provide our money in exchange for food. Isn't that what restaurants do?

We then decided to just try the bar. We waited for a few minutes to be noticed. Finally a bartender walked towards us....and filled her half-empty Dunkin Donuts ice tea with more ice....and left. The other (one) bartender remained on the other end of the bar. No beer either I guess.

We were polite to the end, even when they smiled and said we should come back some other time.

We drove about five minutes down the road to another tavern and ordered take-out while enjoying a beer.

The menu looked phenomenal at Shovel Handle and the beer taps were great, but we couldn't try either. It was a major left down.

This place was suggested by the inn we stayed at. We were so glad we listened. A great old barn converted into a great restaurant. This place had the best food and great entertainment. Had the pulled pork and it rocked. The Staff were super friendly and the service was fast. We sat with a great view by the window and had some great music from one of the many musicians that play there. Myself being a musician and a lover of great food had the pleasure of enjoying a great evening here with my wife. We will definitely be back here next time we visit jackson.
