Owner description: Kids will love exploring this retired 1953 U.S. Navy submarine which served as a test bed for other submarine systems and now gives visitors a feel for the tight quarters, tiny berths and general submarine lifestyle.

Great place.. really gives you a perspective on just how small a submarine is. Living conditions are tight..one can only image the noice equally unpleasant. Isolation, odors.. tough life. Respect for submariners

While on a walk, we came across the Albacore museum. It was a nice chance to see a submarine up close and learn more about submariners as well as the testing that this particular boat did.

Great 9 min video then unstructured tour of submarine. Fun visit to Portsmouth with 12 and 9 year old kids. Perfect half day.

I have done several sub tours before and this one was the most interactive. Actually got to try out a couple beds to see if I fit.

Buttons played audio files with story of that part of the sub. Need to stay until the end.

I don't think it would be great with lots of people if you are trying to listen to recordings and everybody is playing around. There was nobody else on the sub which was good.

I recommend anybody check out this attraction.

Worth the time and it is only $7 for an adult.

Thank Brian P

The USS Albacore was a unique research submarine. The Servicemen on board were termed “The Astronauts of Their Time.”

I’m not well versed in naval history or engineering, but the 2 hours I spent in the Museum & inside the Sub blew me away. I had a million questions! The Video & Museum were excellent.

A series of 5 audio stations outside the Sub, then 11 more inside, provided a lot of information ~ but a novice just could not absorb enough.

The super-compact spaces had to make it difficult for the 55 men aboard to move around. Every inch of space in all directions was covered with wires or equipment of some kind. I had little idea of what I was looking at, which made the tour even more amazing.
