Owner description: Kids will love exploring this retired 1953 U.S. Navy submarine which served as a test bed for other submarine systems and now gives visitors a feel for the tight quarters, tiny berths and general submarine lifestyle.

Not many people have had the experience of seeing the interior of a submarine. Great self guided tour with recordings at several stations throughout the submarine. This was the cutting edge of technology when it was in service.

A very easy tour of a unique piece of maritime history. A great addition to any visit to Portsmouth. How it got to it's present location is almost as interesting as the sub itself.

Extremely interesting and well put together. Loved the many audio stations located in the sub, and the "hands on" of it.

Great way to learn about our early modern submarines, and see what life may have been life on these vessels, museum building also has some interesting information.

This museum is outstanding for anyone who wants to get a feel of what life on a submarine feels like, or for anyone interested in modern Naval history or the history of the Seacoast area. The highlight is the bow to stern walk-through of the submarine itself with push-button audio featuring members of the crew describing experiences at the stations you are at. I enjoyed the view through the periscope, which was clear and brought distant objects from across the Piscataqua River into sharp focus. For me, a don't miss "hidden gem" is the small museum that is through the doorway in the gift shop / ticket area. A lot is packed into a small space, with scale models of submarines built at Portsmouth though the years, stories, photos, and videos from intriguing historical moments...an enthusiast could spend several hours poring over the details in the museum alone...and everyone will be happy they ducked in to check it out.
