This lovely boutique hotel is located just off the beaten path in Portsmouthm so it's a smidge away from the hubub but in easy walking distance to all the restaurants, music and film and arts, museums and Strawbery Banke and Prescott Park. You can even walk across the bridge to Kittery.

I loved the "keyless" entry feature. The whole place is self-sufficient. They have coffee, tea and water as well as snacks in the lobby and sitting room and a little gift in the room. I came in the winter (well, officially spring but there's no foliage yet) but I can tell the gardens are going to be gorgeous in warmer weather. The decor is modern but also pays homage to the history of the building and the city.

The rooms are spacious and lovely, the beds comfy and all the amenities perfect. The price is great, too. I'd stay here again and each time I come into town to visit!

Room Tip: Room 4 was excellent

I loved my room on the first floor. It had a beautiful historic fireplace but the space felt clean and contemporary. A perfect combination... the bed and bedding were super comfortable... and I'm picky :) Couldn't ask for a more central location - near to everything.

Room Tip: Room #3. beautiful, close and quiet.

When we got in our car to leave I told my husband "there is nothing I didn't like about this place". Seriously, it is beautiful and charming. They managed to keep a lot of the character of this old building and yet provide modern conveniences. The rooms are large and bright beautifully decorated. The linens are soft and the towels are so plush. The bathroom was large, bright and one of the best "away from home" showers I have ever had. But best of all is the location. You can walk to everything in the downtown area. And no key or card to worry about. We loved the electronic access. We will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: If you can't manage steep narrow stairs, stay on the first floor.

Lovely blend of modern and traditional New England coastal. The room was well thought out and full of practical luxury - cushy, cozy bed, soft towels, great toiletries, cool curtains. It even smelled lovely! The main area was well kept and stocked with thoughtful amenities. On site parking and convenient location to downtown were major bonuses! We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this inn!

My new husband (!!) and I stayed at The Sailmaker's House following our courthouse wedding, and it was perfect. The room was beautifully finished, the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in, and the location put us in close proximity to everything in downtown Portsmouth. But the personal touches were really put the experience over the top. They left us a gorgeous box of local chocolates with a card, called to offer tickets to a local music venue the night of our stay, and sent congratulatory appetizers at the restaurant where we were getting drinks before dinner (Moxie, one of their recommendations - which was also wonderful). It felt like they were celebrating with us. Everything about our stay at The Sailmaker's House was excellent, and we're already looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: The hotel is half historic, half new renovation/addition. If you call ahead, they'll help guide you to the right room for your preferences.
