Description: Located just two blocks down from Market Square in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Jumpin' Jay's is a local foodie enclave serving refined seafood in a sleek restaurant setting. The quality of fare is unsurpassed, with fish arriving daily from local fisherman as well as some exotic catches from locations such as New Zealand and Ecuador. Four to six varieties of fish appear on the ever-changing "Catch of the Day" menu, complimented by your choice of gourmet sauce. Our raw bar offers an extensive variety of shellfish found in New Hampshire. Our specialties menu offers more traditional flavor, including Maine Crab Cakes, Haddock Piccata and our popular Linguine in White Clam Sauce. The atmosphere is casually hip, with no pretense. Reservations encouraged. Open seven nights a week.

My husband and I enjoyed an anniversary dinner at Jumpin Jay's on Monday night and we are kicking ourselves for waiting so long between visits. I enjoyed a "Red Hot and Dirty" and he got an American Mule for our celebration cocktails. Both were perfectly delicious! He got the Alaskan King crab legs for an appetizer and the sauce that accompanies these is ah-mazing! Sort of a creamy horseradish concoction that is out of this world. I got the Maine crab cake with a lemon tarragon aioli which was also yummy. We both got haddock piccata (his = hold the capers) which is served with asparagus and mashed potatoes. EVERYTHING was cooked to perfection. All chat stopped at our table while we savored every last bite, not wanting it to end. And to top it all off ~ we got the Maple Crème Brule. Oh my goodness. This meal was magical! The entire staff takes such good care of guests so that water glasses are always filled, food arrives at the right temperature, plates are cleared quickly and you never feel like you have to flag anyone down for attention. We are locals and Jumpin' Jay's is our absolute favorite place in Portsmouth when we are feeling like having the perfect meal.

Company dinner of 30 people. Two long tables and about 6 servers to host us. Drinks a plenty. Structured menu was nice to ease the process. Food was very good from appetizers to desert. No complaints except it took a long time, nearly 3 hours. Will return again with smaller party

Eating at Jumpin’ Jays was the culinary highlight of our week! It was our first time in Portsmouth and we arrived fairly late in the evening. Thankfully, Jumpin’ Jays was still open and our waiter was absolutely amazing! The food was excellent and, even though I rarely drink, the “La Grenada” was dang near perfect. We both felt the atmosphere and menu were worth a second visit so we wrapped up our week back at Jumpin’ Jays. The second visit was on a busy Saturday night. The food, drinks, and service were just as good; we hope to be able to visit again soon!

This was our fourth year to visit this restaurant and we even went 70 miles out of our way just to stay in Portsmouth and eat at Jumpin Jays! I had the mussels and the swordfish and again it was outstanding. The service was excellent as usual and the restaurant made a perfect beginning to our vacation!
