“Country comfort in a gorgeous setting”
Reviewed 10 October 2017 for a stay in October 2017

We had a gorgeous weekend at Brookland Farm, enjoying the beautiful view of fall foliage from the kitchen table, walks on nearby woodland paths, and big crackling fires in the comfortable living room. This is the ideal place to enjoy the New England countryside with friends and family!

“Idyllic Weekend Retreat to Rural New Hampshire”
Reviewed 20 June 2017 for a stay in May 2017

It is a nice, large, secluded, old house located in a very large property area. We were a large group and the various bedrooms were adequate for the adults and kids. The house was stocked with firewood (lots of it!) and we made good use of the fireplace in the living room. The genealogy room was interesting. The host, Chris, and his brother, Jim, were very responsive before and during the trip. Jim lives nearby and is easily reachable if there is a need. It is a good place to relax, take long walks, and, in general, enjoy a quiet stay. After a somewhat rainy May, there were a few mosquitoes to content with but that was a small price to pay for such an idyllic weekend getaway to rural New Hampshire!

“Wonderful, quiet, spacious, great views”
Reviewed 3 August 2016 for a stay in July 2015

We are writing this at the end of a wonderful 17 day July stay. This is a large, comfortable, family friendly house with space for many activities. Because we feel that Tamworth is an exceptional rural town we have traveled from Illinois to vacation there almost every summer for the past 25 years. The other reviews are accurate but I would emphasize a few things. The “grounds” of this house are very extensive and, together with the views, produce a magnificent sense of space. Swimming on the propertyis available in the pond. Trails, also used for cross country skiing lead around the woods. Now that our children are grown we spend about half our time on the porch; reading, dreaming, looking at the mountains, fields, passing clouds, sunsets, the ever changing New England weather, and occasional traffic on Bunker Hill Road (an excellent dirt road). This is a spacious four season older house with loving carpentry fitting things to make them work. The kitchen, which is the center of the house, has fully modern appliances and a very pleasant view across fields. A sitting room off the kitchen, has chairs, a rather archaic sofa, and the TV. The “great room” is a wonderful location for activities for all ages. It has a long dinner table, sofas, chairs, card table, and an upright piano. The master bedroom with its own bath and shower, and a room with two beds and another bath are downstairs. Three bedrooms upstairs run in series with a bath in the middle and a total of six beds. A very powerful attic fan sweeps evening and night air through the upstairs on hot nights. This upstairs is a wonderful place to give kids and other guests privacy. Chris, the owner, has been very responsive and has always been fairly easy to reach. He and his relatives also use the house fairly frequently so it is set up for real living.
We have recommended it to some friends who loved it.

“This was an idyllic New England summer experience.”
Reviewed 26 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This was our second visit to The NH Country Retreat in two years, our first being last summer. Now, as then, we found the accommodations – which are set in an idyllic location in New Hampshire -- clean, well-furnished, and roomy. The beds are comfortable, and the bathrooms are modern. There is plenty of light throughout the house. The house is set off a country lane, and there is complete privacy. We enjoyed the walking trails, and the attractions in the nearby village of Tamworth, including the Barnstormers Summer Theatre and the brand-new Tamworth distillery. All-in-all, this is a splendid experience and an excellent value. We expect to be back next summer.

“Happy Days”
Reviewed 26 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We recently stayed at the NH Retreat in Tamworth and had a wonderful time. Restful and relaxing, we'd go for a run every morning before returning for breakfast on the screen porch. Enjoyed visiting at The Other Store and Farmers Market in Tamworth village, as well as canoeing with the loons on Bearcamp Pond. The house was spacious with lovely grounds and flower beds. Plenty of room to spread out in the big room and the upstairs bedroom. We can't recommend this place highly enough and can't wait to go back there!!
