We stayed in two rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn this past weekend for a two day lacrosse tournament. There isn't really anything wrong with the hotel - it's clean, conveniently located near the Garden State Parkway and large, big-box retail shopping and restaurants. The rooms were comfortable, the lobby and pool areas were clean, and there was ample parking. The pool, albeit small, served our purposes and there is a small outdoor seating area.
But, charging $303 a night + taxes is very expensive for this area. There are no inclusions (free standard wifi for Hilton Honors members) and the staff, while polite, were rigid with our request for late checkout, claiming it's the summer busy season. To be clear - this hotel is nowhere near the beaches, it's a 35 minute drive (with traffic, 25 minutes without traffic) to Seaside, Point Pleasant, or Manasquan. So to claim summer busy season is a bit of a stretch since you're not walking distance to the beach. If it weren't for being HH members, we likely would have stayed at a different hotel for 1/2 - 2/3 the cost.
This would have been a 4 or 5 rating if not for the cost of the stay and lack of accommodation for late checkout.More
