Description: Based in the small village of Franschhoek in the Western Cape. Franschhoek is renowned world wide for Haut Cuisine and Fine Dining. Cafe des Arts is neither Haute Cuisine nor Fine Dining! Cafe des Arts is a simple, rustic, relaxed restaurant where all that matters is the food. There are no table cloths, no silver service and the food is from the pan to the plate. If you're lucky, you may even get some cutlery! -

We went there for breakfast but stayed longer than planned. Really nice place underneath the trees, in the shade. With a nice small playground for our 2 year old to play. Good service and very nice food!

Really wanted to like this place and was looking forward to a hearty breakfast, lovely place to sit and eat away from the hassle and bustle.
Had heard good things about this place when we first moved to Franschhoek two years ago, thought it about time to try it for breakfast as already been to most others in the Valley ...big mistake!
I had what they call “the full monty”, I checked at order stage that sausage meant proper sausage and not boerewors and was told it did..no it didn’t it was grey boerewors, hard poached eggs that were ordered as soft but inedible anyway as so strong from the vinegar it was poached in, bacon that was pretty much just fat, about 10 French fries and not sautéed pots that you’d typically have with a monty, baked beans looked like they’d been reheated many many times, in fact so dry that one by one I counted all 9 of them!!
Even before trying the food I had to hold the plate over one of the garden areas to pour off the fat, it was literally swimming in it, in fact there was so much it should of been served in a bowl !
Looked for someone in charge but couldn’t find anyone so left and went home for a sandwich......and won’t be going back.

Thank Guenroc

Discovered this place walking around. A breath of fresh air. Good food. Awesome staff. The owner Lieben Vermeulen made sure to spend time with each table ensuring everyone was happy. And we were. VERY ! Will go back and send people there without any problem

We were looking for something off the main street and stumbled across Cafe Des Arts. Intrigued by the narrow path which seemed to lead to an area of tall trees we found a most wonderful place to eat. The staff & particularly the owner were very friendly and welcoming and this being their first lunch opening could not do enough for us. The menu was small, which we like and we were not disappointed. The chicken pie was very tasty, full of flavour & perfect pastry. The Malva pudding was a 'melt in your mouth' experience. We were only in Franschhoek for the day but would certainly have returned if we had been staying longer. We would definitely recommend Cafe Des Arts. A beautiful setting.
