Salvatore and his wife Nina are the two incredible Chefs that run this place together with Nina’s father. Salvatore mastered his talent in Italy, working for several years in starred restaurants, while Nina studied in Lugano. They landed here by chance.... as we did after one friend of ours recommended it, and managed our booking (which is worth a several months’ waiting list). The location is quite simple, really very small, modern and hardly sophisticated or notable, as the service, which is absolutely ok but not particularly special nor sophisticated, definitely family-run. But .... food, creativity, quality and presentations are nothing short of exceptional, at an INCREDIBLE value-for-money, which you could not even dream about when visiting from Paris, London, Seoul, New York or Milan. You can chose amongst a few menus, ranging between 450 and 490 rands (plus drinks; cheese platter come in at an extra 75 and is worth it), and can equally mix-and-match components of different menus together. Definitely small portions, but huge variety, sequence, number and surprises will not leave you hungry. The main course from the vegetarian menu’ could possibly be the highlight of the dinner, simply celestial, but all the ten-ish different dishes we had boasted fantasy, colors, incredible usage of vegetables, flowers and super natural quality fresh ingredients, (very) generously seasoned with olive oil-based creations. We would have never ever expected to eat like this in little, in-the-middle-of-nowhere Swellendam. Bravo to this incredible family!!!
