Rothman Manor is located at the West end of the historic and charming town of Swellendam close to the national park. The accommodations and service are first rate. The grounds are spacious with a pond, birds and a few game animals. The German couple who own the B&B are friendly and attentive and offer a very welcoming experience. Easy to find on the town's main street it is close to shopping and dining.

We had booked the hotel many months before as a stop-over on our journey from Knysna to Franschhoek which didn't really do this hotel justice. One night in such a lovely hotel was not enough. Our suite was lovely and just a little bit quirky - see the pictures. The gardens were beautiful with the pond, full of lilies, the swimming pool, attractive but a little too cold for me (yes I am a wimp) and best of all a hot tub - which we sat in alone in the dark and in the rain. Joyous. As I said one night was not enough - arriving late afternoon and leaving the next morning. Never mind I'm sure we will be back.

Room Tip: Our lovely room was in one of the out buildings across the courtyard from the car parking

Had prebooked taking the chance, given that The Schoone Ort was fully booked by the time and did not regiert our decision a single moment.

When we arrived early afternoon, morning view suite was already waiting for us and Chanel gave us a warm reception and showed us around. The suite is one of three in the most modern building, just by the parking. You do get a bit of noise from neighbors (ours had two below teenage boys), but otherwise simp,y perfect: modern with style, great bed by the window (yes, you can sleep with fully open windows here), lovely linen, nice adjoining walk in closet, spacious and legendär living room with doors to spacious and fully equipped bathroom, a private terrace to the lake and a private terrace (sunny) to the pool. The bathroom has floor heating, huge tub, huge separate shower with both rain and hand held, two sinks and the toilet. All the toiletries are there and where luxury, magnifying glass, cleenex, shower cap, shower gel, cotton balls, ear buds, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner....you name it. Everything nicely decorated.

Their small pool allows for fun bathing, not swimming, but is deep and salt water and very clean. There are deck chairs around it, all very clean and well kept.

In the lush garden there are more deck chairs, a jacuzzi on a wooden deck and you get a view of their zebras and springbok. Everything exhales harmony and tranquility. Rain spa next doors.

On the other side of the pool (in from another three rooms) the hosts private house with breakfast terrace where they feed humming birds or breakfast inside when weather does not permit outside. The buffet is sumptuous, service perfect, coffee in all its variations delicious as are fresh fruit and eggs cooked to your liking, with whatever you want with them with.

Francisca and Andreas are great hosts, full of charm, attention, care for their paradise and guests, tips of what to do and where to go. They or Chanel booked us into the two bets operating restaurants in Swellendam early April: field & fork and Droste.

We definitely recommend to stay there to couples. You are about 3,5 km from the Restaurants mentioned above, easy walk for adults.

We had 2 nights in the loft suite which was amazing and so clean. The gardens too were immaculate. The owners were lovely and so helpful. We just chilled out on the second day and visited a museum in Swellendam which is a lovely little peaceful town. There are several restaurants within walking distance (one next door and across the road) and more a short drive away. Stay at least two nights!

Excellent accommodation within very beautiful gardens. Welcoming and informative hosts. Wide breakfast choice which was delicious and served in the stunning gardens. We enjoyed our walk in the garden with its many interesting nooks and crannies, especially the resident zebras and springbok. We were only sorry our stay was so short.
