Without a doubt, the best address in Brunei.
Palatial dimensions, it spells unimaginable wealth by the owners the Brunei government.

Not build to impress, but simply because they can.

A female business traveller in a Muslim World sometimes has challenges.
Service could be better, staff need to be asked for everything, they tend to "professionally ignore" me.
Food is out of this world, really. The variety and sheer selection is amazing.
I think I overdosed on Sushi and Sashimi.
I stayed in an Oceanview Deluxe room, E-Club, which means I had use of the E-Club Lounge facilities. All food, drink and WiFi is complimentary at the club, stunning views.
Beach and pools are great, but little beach culture, clearly a result of a Muslim country.
Check out the SPA, but it is tucked away in the adjacent country club, you need a buggy to get there.

Room Tip: Check out the E-Club Lounge; great sundowner spot

Recently spent a night at the Empire for a business trip. Clearly the best hotel in Brunei and relatively cheap by world standards, but a slightly bizarre feeling of being at a holiday resort when you are travelling on business. I understand the hotel is owned and developed by the Government and it feels that way. The building is absolutely massive and feels very under-occupied. Rooms are huge but rather soleless. Clean and well maintained but lacking in any style. Only had breakfast here which was average. I couldn't imagine coming here for a vacation (which is what it was designed for), but its clearly the best option in Brunei and perfectly adequate if you are coming here on business. Most likely you will come here from Singapore so don't expect the same standards!

This is a very nice hotel for SouthEast Asia. It is opulent, but definitely not on par to North American hotels.
If this was on the Riviera Maya in Mexico or in the Caribbean, it would be at most a 3 star hotel. The facilities are very nice, however rooms outdated, havent been renovated since perhaps 1988-1992.

Its also about 45minutes out of town!

We stayed at the Duluxe Seaview room. Room was lovely, good breakfast and service.
Staff friendly
Not quite 5 star rating, because the toilettries were kept to a minimum- only one small bottle of shampoo, conditioner and body wash were given. No toothbrush, sewing kit, shower cap etc were provided. Standards have slipped, but it is probably still the best hotel to stay in in Brunei

Despite the big sell of luxury, the rooms are dated, the hotel is empty and do not believe the web sites that say you can have a drink ( that you have brought with you) in the restaurants - you can't. Apparently the law was changed in 2010 and no one has advertised this fact on any of the web info. Info within the rooms states that you can take your own alcohol for personal consumption to selected restaurants - we booked to celebrate a special occasion and have been very disappointed indeed. Definitely would not return due to the double standards and mis-information.
