Came here twice. Had the breakfast taco and a muffin. Both were so fresh and tasty. Simple fare in a cozy environment.

If you want somewhere which is individual, offers good value for your money, has good food, friendly staff with personalities a sense of humor, each being wrapped up in a no-rush sense of time, then you really should come and try The Bean for breakfast/brunch and delicious coffee while you hang out in a place which is clearly popular with the locals.

A little quirky place with great coffee and pastry dishes. The patrons are an eclectic group...college students, bikers, t-shirts, shorts and flip flops and suits. The coffee choices are wonderful and the bagels are to good to be true. A great place to just sit, enjoy a coffee and pastry and people watch. Great attentive service. It is a place that just invites you in and be a part of the moment.

For several years we have stayed in a Las Cruces La Quinta to be close to The Bean, which is a funky Cafe that attracts bikers and cyclists, tattooed post-graduates and retired scientists, professors and dog walkers. The last time we were there a small boy at the next table was feeding a kitten from a tiny, plastic, repurposed eyedrop bottle.
We are grandparents and Las Cruces is halfway from our home in Tucson and our youngest grandchild. The exit we take is Avenida de La Mesilla, named for the town originally the most important in southwestern New Mexico. It's a tiny Santa Fe with a plaza, a worthy attraction in itself, but The Bean on the Avenida is what gets us in shape for the second day of driving over the desert, often in 90 degree heat!
Last week I had locally smoked salmon on a bagel, my favorite, but often I choose chewy oatmeal with fresh blueberries. Toast slices are thick. Scones are interesting and varied. The coffee roasted there is "out of this world," though grown in Kenya, Sumatra and Costa Rica. It's available by the pound.
The tables are ads for Coca Cola and Corona beer. The curtains are burlap coffee bags. The plates are 1969s melamine. The art is amateur but endearing.
