I always wondered what those "older, pull up to the front door" motels are like. Well, I have a feeling that Sunset Motel has broken the mold. Sunset has 1960 era decor which added to its charm and charisma. The check-in was very friendly, easy and helpful. I can't remember the last time I actually used a key to unlock a motel room door! The bed was the most comfortable on our entire trip. We ate our breakfast at the outdoor dining area...or you could carry it back to your room. If we need an overnight stay on our next trip through Moriarty, we will definitely stay at Sunset Motel again.

A classic Route 66 motel. You know, a motel. Where you actually park your car right outside your own room door and you don't have to lug your stuff sixty yards across a parking lot, through a lobby, up some stairs, down a hall and *then* into your room. OK, so the decor is a bit dated: this is a problem? It's classic Route 66. The rooms are plenty big enough, and updated with flat-screen tv, fridge and microwave, and hi-speed wireless internet. And boy, are those rooms clean! Plus the place is run by the nicest people you'll find anywhere. I had to cancel my booking on less than 36 hours notice even though the fine print said I needed 48 but, no problem. They cancelled that reservation, took the charge off my credit card, and couldn't have been nicer. Because I wasn't sure when I'd be able to travel I didn't make another reservation then but just took my chances when I did show up, and I got in. And I'll be back.

As I trek across the Southwest on Route 66, I am in search of mom and pop shops of all sorts, especially at night when its time to settle down in a clean, quiet, non-chain roadside motel. The guidebooks suggested this place because it fills all those requirements, PLUS owner Deborah Pogue is a huge supporter of the local Route 66 preservation effort and I wanted to support her efforts. The place is cleaner than most of the "big" places I have stayed over the years. It is quiet and comfortable and a small breakfast snack is available. If you get a chance, take time to talk with Deborah. She's with it and really and truly passionate about what she does. That love and passion is evident in her property. Thanks for doing this Deborah!

Really glad we found this little gem of a place on Trip Advisor. Beats the chains by far and was cheaper too. I'm sure the place dates back to pre-I40 days but no matter, it's very well-kept and clean. Plus, that's part of the charm! I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Good bed at a good price. Nice and clean and may I say a fully tiled super clean bathroom. Staff was very helpful. Couldn't ask more for a rest from a very long road. Nice easy on and off I-40. Good gas stop too with with several stations and a Pilot Travel Center across the highway. Won't stop in AlbQQ now we have found this gem. Will absolutely stay again.
