Our truck broke down about a hundred feet or more from here and we had to spend the night. We were on our way to see some family in another city, so we had to call my brother to come and get us. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Excellent staff

While driving through Albuquerque I was looking for something east of the city and out of the traffic. I searched TripAdvisor for Moriarty, NM which was about 30 miles
east and found this little gem with a very good rating. I was not disappointed. The desk clerk, who also was the owner, was very friendly and treated me like a friend. The room was clean and comfortable and was equipped with a refrigerator and microwave oven. It was obvious the owners took great pride in their place as it was well maintained. It was also located in a very safe location which is extremely important to me. My wife and I love the older motels that have been restored and kept up. It's nice to drive up to your room and unload your bags without negotiating stairs or hallways. I will definitely keep this place in mind for future trips through Albuquerque.

Lee, thank you for taking time to write a thoughtful review. We very much appreciate your kind words. Portals such as tripadvisor.com allow well ran, independent motels like the Sunset Motel to do well - if we do a good job. The Sunset Motel was built in the 50's and 60's. My brother and I were raised behind the front desk. We love the fact that our little jewel is still owned and managed by the family who built the property. Not many of these left! Please hurry back! Mike and Debbie Pogue - owners.

I read the reviews on line. I agree with those that feel this is a clean and simple place. When I walked into my room I felt like I stepped back into the my childhood in the 1960's. I took pictures of the room and sent them to my wife. the owner is very pleasant and recommended a great local place to eat, Chili Hills. I would stay here next time I am in the area.

A pleasant and comfy stay.
After reading the reviews I decided to give this motel a try while traveling through. Glad we did. Check in was a breeze, very friendly and courtesy staff and owners.

It's a cozy little motel off the road of Moriarty. This motel has been around quite some time since 1959 and has been updated. Has a beautiful adobe architect with spacious parking, clean grounds with a nice relaxing patio with a grill.

The rooms were spacious, clean, small flat screen tv, comfy bed, small fridge, coffeemaker, nice clean fluffy towels (better than most 2-3 stars hotels), not to mention this motel is pet friendly (2 pets) per room.
2 convenient stores located near by for refreshments. I would recommend staying here.

While the room we were given had all that we needed for two nights of sleep, it still left much to be desired. The bedding seemed clean enough, but the carpet was heavily stained and appeared filthy. Amenities were lacking. No phone and the clock was a windup. The alarm didn't work. Fortunately, we had a cell phone with an alarm. A lamp didn't work leaving the room somewhat dark. Moriarty doesn't have much choice in hotels, but this is one I would not return to.
