Kapama River Lodge is exceptional. When we were making the decision for a Safari far off in America, it was difficult to know what attributes were important once we arrived. Kapama ended up being a perfect choice. Here is why: First once you arrive at the airport, especially after a long journey, you want to get to the resort quickly and Kapama is only a 15-20 minute jeep ride from the airport. Don’t worry about airport noise only a few small plane arrive each day and we never heard a plane. At the hotel, the staff was super nice greeting us with a sunrise juice cocktail and had a package for each of us with our rooms and our guide and trackers assignments for the safari runs. Very organized, no waiting. Once we settled into our room, toured the absolutely beautiful facilities, we set up our spa appointments. The spa is perfect, worth the money for a treatment each day you are there. The practitioners were excellent and warm and friendly. In fact, they knew our names every time we came back for a treatment. Patricia, Pam and the rest of the team thank you for your wonderful service. The view from the spa was like no other, overlooking a waterhole where hippopotamuses and Cape buffalo roam while you bask in the sun with a pillow under your head….perfect. The game runs were spectacular. The bountiful African animals roam freely over the vast area of low forest and savannah. We were greeted for the game drives by Gerhard our personal guide and Jeffery our tracker. By our observation, we believe we landed the best guide team at Kapama. Gerhard was so informative, funny and a super personality as if we have been friends for a long time. Each night he would join us for dinner and we would talk about the days viewing and all about South Africa. Jeffery is an exceptional tracker. He knows the roads better than anyone at the resort it seems and was determined to ensure we saw the big 5 and much more, of course, we did! It was not just about viewing African animals, it was the adventure and journey of finding the majestic animals, giraffes, lions, elephants, rhinos, zebras, and the infamous leopard, making our drives exceptional. And the morning coffee and afternoon sunset cocktails were icing on the cake. We were lucky to be paired with this dynamic dual to lead our drives. Lastly, the dining staff was exceptional too. We were assigned to Israel as our waiter for the entire time, and he was so warm and kind. Food was abundant and super good and the chef was absolutely amazing speaking over 10 different languages. Our last night we sang and danced with the dining staff which closes the meal and this was one of our many highlights. So what makes Kapama so exceptional? It’s the wonderful people working for the resort delivering exceptional service, and so very customer focused, this will make your trip truly exceptional. Thank you, Gerhard and Jeffery and the rest of the team at Kapama River Lodge for an absolutely amazing experience that we will never forget. With sincere thank you, The Denver, Colorado Clan.
P.S. food for thought: It’s important to come to the safari experience with a sense of curiosity, respect, full of energy and embrace the journey of the safari rides not just the finds. And don’t sleep-in for any of the game drives!
