As this was our first time on safari we really had no idea what to expect but what a fantastic time we had. We arrived early afternoon and were shown to our room. We had Room 6 which we would recommend as it is nearest to the main lodge. The room was lovely with a huge, very comfortable bed and a view over the river and hills where you could spy nyalas and zebras. The bathroom had a bath plus indoor and outdoor shower. On the decking are 2 sun chairs beside a private plunge pool. One of our highlights was being on the sun chairs when a group of nyalas decided to come to drink from our pool, paying no attention to us!
Every morning and afternoon we went on a game drive with 2 or 3 other guests and the fantastic double act who are Dino (ranger) and Ernie (tracker). What fun we had! Over our 5 drives we had so many memorable experiences - watching elephants on the move through the trees, being confronted by a bull elephant blocking our path, cheetahs strolling past us, lions snoozing and leaving the vehicle to walk towards some giraffes, having muffins and coffee and even our dinner starters out in the middle of nowhere!
By the way if you visit at this time of year, late Oct/early Nov, all you need is a fleece to keep you warm at times. There are also blankets in the vehicle which you can wrap round yourself. We wore shorts both morning and afternoon and were fine. Trainers are perfect for clambering up and down from the truck. No need to bring dressy clothes for dinner. Anything goes! Bring neutral coloured clothing especially if you are going on a walk with your ranger.
In the morning you get a wake up call at 5 and before you go out you can have juices and fruit. Breakfast is served after you come back. Iced drinks and cake are served before the afternoon drive.
Thanks too to Oza for looking after us so well. All the staff were very friendly and we felt really at home.
The food improved as the days went on and we had a very pleasant last night dinner with Dino and our fellow guests.
All in all a fantastic experience which we won’t forget in a hurry!
