My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and our experience was horrible to say the least. The list is too long to mention here. The owner did offer us a fee weekend to compensate but after some thought I realized once you had a bad experience no freebees will change it.

Situated in a private game reserve the lodge offers 6 catered rooms each of which is situated well apart from the others with views over the bush to Lake Jozini. They are large, well equipped and definitely have the "wow" factor. Meals are taken either around the Braai area or in the main building which has a decked area with recliners and bush views. There's also a large rustic styled outdoor pool. Guided bush walks (excellent), fishing and boat trips and rhino tracking are on offer.

This was the highlight of our holiday. We curtailed our beach holiday and returned back to Esikhotheni for 4 more nights. Rooms and views superb. Food good and service excellent. It is however a very quiet holiday so if you looking to relax and switch off then this is the place for you. only 10 guests at a time so loads of privacy and peace and quiet. Game drives and fishing available for the more adventurous.

We spent two nights at the reserve and had a great time. From the time we met Jan at reception everything seemed to be no trouble for the staff. Jan even had to put up with us requesting an accomodation change during the day and this was handled without a problem. Dinner at the lodge on Sunday night was delicious. The Monday morning dam cruise with skipper Robert was worth the money espeially as we managed to see herds of elephant and a rhino at the waters edge. The bird life around the dam is spectacular.
The only negative is the sound of the traffic from the N2 but that is to be expected.
We will be back!

Room Tip: Stay at the lodge if you want the hotel experience, but for the outdoor experience then Bush Camp or Asane are the places to stay.

Our first visit to South Africa to see friends who organised the best road trip ever...different game reserves all of which were great but very very different. Esikhotheni was superb and provided so many 'firsts' for us. 62 Elephants drinking at the lake was so memorable. The rooms were superb and as my wife said the best location ever for a bath. The game and wildlife were superb, the food and hospitality - superb, can you guess where this is going? Basically the whole experience was great from the greeting (I won't spoil it but it really sums up the place) and even leaving was special seeing great game on the way out.

All the staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. The Bar is reasonably priced and a good place to spend the evening, we even had some good singers and were welcome to join in.

Dave and Elin were great hosts and are passionate and knowledgeable about the game and wildlife that they enhanced our visit to their reserve.

Thanks to everyone at Esikhotheni - we had a great time
