394 opened a few months ago and its been a salvation in an otherwise scanty restaurant scene in Catskill. It's the closest thing on either side of the river to a French bistro - where the owners are also the chef and host - greeting and overseeing everything, and constantly coming up with fresh ideas for their menu. Their concept for doing small, medium and large plates makes it easy to refine your ordering to your appetite as well as mixing and matching a variety of choices. The steak frites w/ the maytag blue cheese sauce is perfect and the lamb sliders are savory yummies that you won't find elsewhere.Gil the owner is also a brilliant baker so if you're looking for a breakfast spot this is THE place in Catskill. His blueberry scones are the best I've ever had and a warmed-up pain au chocolat(chocolate croissant) brings bliss. The staff is well-schooled in turning out the best espresso-based coffees on their Italian machine. The only limit is their open hours - only Thursday through Sat, w/ a Sunday brunch. This is my second review as I've become a regular there.
