Spent two nights here, liked it so much we stayed two more nights. Positives began with the mother/daughter team who seem to share front desk duties. Delightful people, most helpful as needed.
Yes, this place IS a throwback to simpler times. Eg., when did you last see a straight shower-curtain rod? So what. Shower/tub was spotless, water pressure strong and hot. And here's a throwback that was a true treasure : a bathroom sun lamp! Turn that on when you go in for your morning routine and it's like a giant surge of dopamine.
Breakfast VERY simple--muffins, cold cereals, good coffee--but available until a humane 10:00am. If you score one of the two tables, you'll probably meet some interesting fellow travellers. Otherwise, it's takeout to your room.
There is another cluster of attractive, older motels up the Lake near Glimmerglass Opera but if your main focus is on Coopertown itself, Red Carpet is closer to town and the drive--especially at night--a lot easier.
This was our third visit to lovely Cooperstown and overall, this was probably the least expensive, most satisfactory accommodation we've had. It's no Otesaga Hotel, for sure, but you'll save enough $$$ to pay for that grand old hotel's superb dining in the evenings.
