Owner description: The National Soaring Museum houses a world-class collection of sailplanes and gliders, preserving the history and heritage of motor-less flight. NSM is located next to an active glider port, allowing visitors to witness takeoffs and landings, especially during the busy summer months. Public glider rides are available on a first-come, fist-served basis. Harris Hill offers many enticements besides a visit to NSM. The Museum is located adjacent to Harris Hill Amusement Park, featuring miniature golf, go-karts, batting cages, a driving range, an arcade, snack bar and more: as well as a pool, picnic grounds and a scenic overlook.

I had heard about this museum a few years ago and finally got to visit. A very nice collection of sailplanes and displays about the people and history of soaring. Particularly enjoyed the replica of the Wright Brothers 1902 glider. The museum is located next to the Harris Hill Soaring Center so it is possible to watch the sailplanes or take a flight.

Small museum but informative! Walk and see on your own. Lots of gliders and some other air items. Each exhibit has notes on about the history

If you're a pilot or flying enthusiast you'll love this place. Well laid out and enjoyable to walk around. Everyone was helpful and enjoyable to chat with! Watched a few gliders take off as well.

Very interesting. Learned about gliders. Saw gliders actually going up in the air and flying around. Kids really enjoyed it.

Anyone who knows planes, the history of flight, collectors of plane memorabilia knows the National Soaring Museum. It is only on of two U.S. museums focused on motorless flight and Elmira, NY is regarded as the "Soaring Capital of America," in part because of soaring's central role for over 80 years in the social and economic history of the region, attracting individuals and associations from around the world for contests, lectures, symposia, and special events.

Offered throughout the year are activities like The Eileen Collins (Local NASA Astronaut) Summer Camp, sail plane rides, sail plane training, sail plain events drawing pilots from all around the country.... And that doesn't even touch what there is to experience inside. History of flight that will entertain the youngest to the oldest, flight simulators, amazing views (including of the warplane museum just 5 minutes away). So many things to do that I could go on forever ever! Make sure you check this out on your way through, you won't be disappointed.
