On our tour of Long Island light houses were were told to see the Fire Island light. We lucked out on a sunny day - but super windy. The parking is a good ways from the light house, but the walkway is well maintained and fun to see the deer in the area.

We weren't able to go up the light house because of the winds, but the walk around the area provided us with some great pictures. Would highly recommend!

Here on Long Island, we’ve got some famous lighthouses, but none are as pleasant an experience as Fire Island (I’m looking at you Montauk). The lighthouse is easily accessible from Robert Moses Park Field 5. During the busy season there is a $10 parking fee. We visited on Black Friday instead of shopping and there was no parking fee. From there it’s a 3/4 mile walk on a boardwalk to the lighthouse. When you arrive you can roam the grounds, Museum, gift shop, and caretakers house for no charge. This already puts this place leagues ahead over Montauk as you have to pay to both park and get onto the grounds of the lighthouse. Once you enter the gift shop you can opt to climb the lighthouse for a $7 fee. Please be advised you have to be over 42” to climb. It was a nice, steep and winding climb so if you’re afraid of heights I wouldn’t recommend it but it was so cool looking out over Long Island from the top. Living here you can take for granted how beautiful it can be. We went during off peak season so it wasn’t terribly crowded. If you’re looking for the National Park service stamp, you can get it at the second desk which isn’t in the gift shop but right before the lighthouse climbing entrance. If you opt to climb, you get a certificate with the NPS stamp stating you did so. It’s the little things sometimes. This was a great experience and I highly recommend everyone go visit the friendly lighthouse.

We have been here twice. Awesome staff. Amazing views. Narrow stairs at top though. I would recommend bringing snacks or lunch and make a whole afternoon of this excursion.

Went on fee-free Black Friday to avoid paying parking fee. 3/4-mile walk from parking lot 5 to lighthouse, but on wooden boardwalk. Fresnel lens is in one building, lighthouse keeper's house is visitor center, exhibits on first and second floor, and gift shop (and entrance to tower, which is a fee plus a height requirement, everything else is free.) If you're asking for the passport stamp (which is at the "connecting desk" before the tower entrance, not at the gift shop), be specific. i got the lighthouse one (that is, for the lighthouse passport) and had to ask for the National Park one before getting the NPS stamp.

This is def a cool place to go with your partner or your family. It's awesome that they allow you to go all the way to the top of the lighthouse climbing 182 steps. I don't think it's a good idea for small kids but there were small kids going up. Seems dangerous to me but you decide on that. It's $8 to go up and when you make it back down they give you a certificate of accomplishment. There's a free museum there as well with a lot of information. For parking it's $8 but if you have the empire pass you can park at parking lot #5 and walk the little boardwalk to the lighthouse which is very cool because you get to see deer/,raccoons and other animals if you're lucky. We did an event they had called lantern tour, which it was at night by the beach and then the lighthouse and they told us the history of the lighthouse. It was cool. They host other events so just check online. Hope I was helpful and enjoy your day!
