Today, my 13 yr old daughter and I walked around the lake. We parked by McDonald Pond, walk passed people picnicking and fishing and accessed the trail near where we drove into the park - off Peninsula Blvd. It's a nice walk in the woods. You can stay on the paved path or do as we did, walk on the dirt path so you can take a "side trip" off to the water. We were in no hurry so enjoyed stops to look at an occasional butterfly, to swing from a long vine hanging from a tall tree and to take pictures of a large bird we'd never seen before. The loop around the lake is 3 miles plus an extra mile walking to and from the trailhead. The lake is pretty and the path free of litter but because of the fast moving traffic on Peninsula Blvd. and Southern State Pkwy, it's not, unfortunately, the most serene, peaceful walk. But for us it's close and convenient and we get joy from spotting the turtles on the log in McDonald Pond.

Nice lake and trails with horses, people and bikes. I know it as a clean, quiet, & safe green place to hang out, but upon reading some other reviews i realize that i have just scratched the surface. My mission now is to go find the tennis courts, the carousel, the pool, and the gym.
Its a great park.

Beautiful state park, very clean.
We would definitely go back for a day.
We were under the pavilion so even with the passing showers we still had a good time. Park ranger came over to complement the music, he was very nice.

Nice location, usually have summer bbqs there with family and friends. Pool and work out center is nice and less costly than a gym membership.

My brother held a birthday party at the carousel house, for his 2 yr old son. I believe they paid about three hundred and fifty bucks for a 3hr use of the house area, and unlimted rides on the carousel for the adults and kids. Everybody brought a dish of food for the setup, which can hold about 40 - 50 people nicely. The older kids got bored of the ride after about 5 times ( which is to expected ). In turn they were able to enjoy the big playground near the area. The only problem was it wasn't to close and parents had to walk the children over, so they missed other things in turn. The floor in the house area was somewhat torn up and ugly. Everything else was very nice and clean , including the bathrooms. Would def recomemed for young children 1 - 6 yr not to much for older children. Keep in mind the cost is 8 dollars to park in the parking lot, and there is no where else to park in walking distance since the park is somewhat off the highway.
