Like Emily S., we too stayed in the Rooster Comb Suite as we wanted a private bathroom however 4 women staying next door and another gentleman in another room appeared to have no issues sharing the two bathrooms. Our room was rustic, clean, the bed comfortable and relaxing after a long day hiking. We were greeted by the owner who works in the gift store down stairs that also contains a sitting room for guests near a fireplace, She showed us the beautiful wood pieces made by her husband. He has a work barn next door literally surrounded by stumps and branches telling me he has enough work for the next 3 years. He even had an intern from the University of Cincinnati staying at the inn and learning the craft.
The kitchen down the hall was convenient in the morning for coffee and tea and if we were staying longer we could have cooked. Right off the kitchen was a deck where after a hike, muddy clothes and boots could be shed.
Breakfast the first morning was at the iconic Noonmark Diner across the street, a five minute walk. The next morning we tried a new place, the SubAlpine Coffee shop (See my review) directly across the street from the Noonmark for specialty coffee, tea and fresh baked goods along with items for breakfast, grilled sandwiches for lunch, fresh salads and smoothies.
Of particular interest to us was the 10 minute walk from the inn to the trailhead to Rooster Comb Mountain which was the main purpose of our trip. The short ride to Lake Placid was our other purpose.

We stayed here for the good price. Its laid back and friendly, although rooms are small and dark. fine if you can be outside most of the time, and nice to have the kitchen. Only one available shower/bath for 4 rooms plus extra toilet but didn't seem to be a problem. Rooms are all along one hallway so noise could be an issue at times if all the guests aren't quiet!

We stayed in the RoosterComb Suite with our German Shepherd after a long day of hiking. The room was very clean & charming with rustic furnishings. We used the fully stocked community kitchen to make dinner, it was very convenient. There was a back deck door that was great for taking our dog outside without disturbing other guests. We were comfortable and slept great. Reservations were very easy and the owner/staff were very friendly and accommodating. We will stay again and would recommend to anyone.

Also the two resident Hounds were adorable!

Lovely place to stay. Very clean and well-kept. Nice kitchen area where you could cook your own meal or make a cup of coffee or tea. Decor is rustic wooden beds and tables. Close to the trails, so great as a place to rest after a hard hike. Would definitely stay again.

Very clean.
Lots of free stuff:
The kitchen was well equipped, so we saved a lot of money by cooking in.
Laundry was free, and the inn even provided detergent.
The room had a nice selection of soaps, shampoos, etc.
Very proximate to many trailheads.

I notice that some reviewers were surprised by a lack of private bathrooms. We stayed in the Roostercomb room, which does have its own bathroom. I was a little worried that our two kids would make too much noise -- rooms were not very soundproof. So guests with children will need to be considerate. Otherwise, absolutely wonderful.

Stayed: August 2015
