Overall this is a great motel. We stayed in an Ocean Front room on the 2nd floor. We had Room 50, which is right next to the beach bar and pool. Originally we were worried that the music from the bar would keep us up at night, but the sound of the ocean drowned it out mostly and it didn't bother us at all. Actually, we found it to be a really fun atmosphere with the reggae music and beach bar - it really put us in the vacation spirit! The rooms are as we expected...they're not the most updated and yes, need some work, but very clean. Really what you're paying for is the view and the location...both which can't be beat! You're directly ON the beach, which is pristine and beautiful. You're also only one block from town, so everything is within walking distance. The beach bar was expensive, but a great addition and the drinks were strong and flavorful. The pool area looks like it was recently renovated with a nice stone patio, tables and chairs, and loungers. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but we did order room service for breakfast both mornings, which was fast and the food was decent. Although you get a coupon for complimentary breakfast, they upcharge for a lot of basic things, like adding cheese to your omelet or fruit to your pancakes. But overall, it's still a cheap breakfast compared to most.
Overall we really loved our stay here. So much so, that we plan to come back next year and stay in the condos on the other side of the resort. If you're expecting a 5-star resort then this isn't your place. But if you go in with realistic expectations that you want a decent room with amazing views, the sounds of the ocean, direct beach access, a nice pool/bar/restaurant, and the ability to walk right into town for shopping and dining, then don't hesitate to book here - you won't be disappointed!

Room tip: The ocean front rooms are worth the extra money! The view is stunning

Jennifer,
Thanks so much for your visit and kind words on your recent stay - we really appreciate it!!
The Royal Atlantic is still one of the last true beach vacations - any closer you would need to rent a boat, *which can be arranged at our office along with a jet ski surf board, paddle board or lessons!!
The Royal Atlantic sits directly on Montauks white sandy beach and all just a short walk to town (1 block). As you indicated all our hotel accommodations in-season include a selection of 14 complimentary complete breakfast's with included choice of beverage.

Let us know if you need assistance on your next vacation!

We've been going to the Royal Atlantic hotel for over 20 years. IT was with much anticipation that we booked the hotel last October for a birthday getaway. Our room ( that we had loved years ago) was musty and really cold...so cold that we slept in our clothes had a terrible night and cancelled our reservation for the next night! The management gave us a hard time the next morning when we wanted to cancel for that night, until we threatened to call American Express and complain. Even though it was the "off season", we had still paid quite a lot to stay in the musty, cold room. We stayed in the older section of . the resort-directly on the ocean.

We stay in Montauk every year in August and have stayed at most of the hotels over the years. The Royal Atlantic is great for what it is - a 50’s style motel right on the beach with a pool and a beach bar. It’s clean and mostly you pay very high rates for the ability to go back-and-forth all day from beach to pool, and to walk to town for dinner. Easy Peasy, no fuss experience. It’s sort of renovated and the beds are real queens so you can put 4 in a room with kids.

Thank you for staying and sharing. Yes, Montauk is a quaint seaside community - a true beach front get-a-way. Our hotel sits directly on the white sandy beach with 2 heated swimming pools, restaurant and steps to town to enjoy a bit of shopping, and some really great restaurants. A few new real standouts this year were "Hooked" for fresh seafood (try the Kick'in crab & corn chowda! - as us locals say it) and "Sugar" for some incredible organic ice cream
All just a short walk 1 block away!
Hope to see you again soon

Stayed for a week in July. The condos are in a good location on the beach, clean and are well maintained. Condos are on the beach, but need to walk around to ends to access beach. Includes use of regular royal atlantic pool etc.

The opening line on the Royal Atlantic Resort website reads: "Royal Atlantic redefines luxury living".

This place is a dump and is a far cry from anything remotely close to luxury!

We were there for three nights - paid for in advance!

We paid for a room with two queen beds. Confirmation indicated that and included a photo of a seemly nice room. Not sure where that room was but certainly not at this dump. We got one bed and a pull-out couch with a mattress that had no padding so you can feel every spring and bar. Kitchen was dirty. Fuses in bathroom continually blew out!

The doorknob was broken so we had to wait two hours until it was repaired as we couldn't leave the room.

This dump does not provide towels for the pool/beach - we had to rent them! And no chairs either - had to rent those too. For over $600/night....!!!!!

The people at the reception desk, especially Diana, were the rudest people I have ever encountered in all my travels. Rude, nasty, disrespectful - beyond awful!!! Not an ounce of customer service!

This dump ruined what we hoped would be a great weekend out in Montauk. Several attempts of communication with the manager never received the professional courtesy of a reply.

This dump only cares to take your money and offers nothing else!

STAY AWAY!!!

Room tip: Do not believe the images and information on the website. The reality is nothing remotely close to what is posted.
