57 Waterberg is a very special place. Not because the setting is spectacular- because it is is, not because the lodge is fantastic- because it is is, but because the people that work there a very special.

Simon, Lucas, Michael and Josphat gave us an experience we cannot stop thinking about and will never forget. As a kid growing up I have always dreamt of going on Safari and this did not disappoint.

The main lodge itself is beautiful with a view over the hills, tree tops and watering hole, whilst the lodges themselves are huge, well decorated, maintained and appointed. The water piping hot, the bed huge and comfortable, heating to keep you warm and night and a massive balcony to give you some private outdoor space.

The food prepared by Lucas at every meal was excellent- cakes and biscuits on the game drive, 2 course breakfast, "light" lunch and 3 course meals in the evening were fantastic. The meals were cooked with love and presented in immaculate detail.

The game drives- driven by Simon and Josphat were un believable. Seeing the animals so close up, in their natural habitat was fantastic but the resilience and determination of both of them to find the animals in the right location was incredible, extending drives, going on less used roads, getting out of the car and peering at tracks with lions evidently near by.

But the greatest thing about this lodge was the feel of the place. They have made it feel like a home. When we left we felt like we were leaving some of our best friends behind. Michael was never without a smile, making us laugh and feel welcome at every step. Josphats knowledge of the reserve, animals and just about everything else was immense. Simons determination through hail, rain and thunderstorms to find us hunting lionesses and generosity in helping us with a few small things and finally Lucas's ability to deliver fantastic fresh food at a moments notice when his epic laugh and smile made this a wonderful trip.

I am sure there are more "beautiful" lodges, with "better quality" ingredients and more "private" tours but what I can tell you is that this place is very very special and it is because of the people that work there. Thank you to everyone for having us and we will see you again.

I was looking forward to spoiling my wife at a 5 star lodge for her 50th birthday, but this establishment definitely does not deserve to display 5 stars. I dearly paid for what I though would be a memorable week-end but the lodge and the way it is run lacks the fundamentals generally present at these special (expensive) places. The staff are friendly and the food was ok (at best 4 star) but too many things confirmed this place is not worthy of a 5 star rating.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the time to review us on Trip Advisor. We take feedback from our guests very seriously and we are very concerned about your comments.

Firstly I would like to apologise that you didn't have a 5 star experience at Fifty Seven Waterberg.

As a five star establishment we have to adhere to extremely strict grading criteria. Our grading gets done yearly and we have achieved more than the required points to be awarded 5 starts. Further to this we pride ourselves on delivering service and an overall experience above 5 stars.

It is very disappointing to hear that we did not deliver to your expectations, although your comments are very vague on how we specifically fell short.
We strive to continuously improve our facilities and service and can only do so with constructive criticism from our guests.

Therefore I will personally be in contact with you to discuss your concerns in more detail to ensure that the TEAM gets briefed on how we can improve on specific points.

Once again thank you for your honest feedback.

We visited 57 Waterberg at welgevonden It was the most relaxing , exciting , exquisite experience.

From the moment we arrived until we left , we were treated like royalty. The staff were beyond incredible and couldn't do enough to make our stay magnficent.

Our ranger Josphat was the most knowledgable and interesting gentleman. It was a treat to have him for the entire time of our stay. We had amazing drives and saw incredible game. We saw everything , close up. He educated us in the most interesting manner and we laughed a lot too

The rooms were gorgeous and the lodge is magnificent.

We were so sad to leave and we cannot wait to go again

The area is gorgeous and the entire experience should not be missed

Thanks so much.

Room Tip: All rooms exquisite.

We spent 3 blissful days and nights at Fifty Seven Waterburg, even though the weather was unseasonably cool, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The suites are spacious and well furnished, with stunning verandas. The main lodge is relaxing (we didn't get chance to dip in the pool, too chilly, but would be great on a hot day). With a maximum capacity of 10 guests, one and all feel as though they are personally welcome. Our guide Jo treated us to 3 days of knowledgeable sunrise and sunset drives, during which we had sightings of lion, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu, to mention just a few. His knowledge of flora as well as fauna is very impressive, he endeared us with his calm, professional approach.
We must also mention Mike.....THE best barman we have ever come across - his timing is perfect, never too early to top up a drink and NEVER too late!
The food at the lodge is great, we were even treated to a delicious Christmas Day dinner, completed perfectly by a trifle! Post-drive breakfasts plentiful and varied, lunches spot on, dinners perfect.
Take some quiet time at the viewing hide by the entrance to the lodge. Just a few minutes watching the prolific birdlife and we were treated to the sight of 6 beautiful female Waterbuck coming to drink at the water hole.

Room Tip: All private and secluded
