The Lake House
Reviewed 25 July 2017

Because of traffic we were arriving a little after 9. We called and were told that we would be fined if we were even a little after 9. We pushed hard and arrived at 8:57. When we arrived, the office and property gave the distinct impression that hoarders were about. The cabin faced the lake but you could only see the dilapidated trailer parked just feet from the door followed by another dilapidated trailer with high weeds all about. Inside, the cob webs on the lamp shades, bugs on the floor and very nasty broom and black with dirt dustpan greeted us. We might as well have been with the folks in the next cabin with only a board between us, we could hear bathroom activity, all conversation and intimate everything. The window air conditioner could only put air into the room if you propped back the curtain. That meant that anyone could see in. We arrived at night and the next morning saw that the view out the window was trash. I awoke with spider bites and my husband saw a spider crawling just up from my bed. The thing called a television was a computer screen on a table. This place has great potential as the property sits right on the water but it is just horrible under the current owner.

This place should be condemned. On arrival the manager could barely lift his head up from eating to check us in. The main lobby area looks like a hoarder's home.
We were then shown to a small cabin-cramped (barely enough room to walk around the beds), dark, damp and smelly. The sheets were dirty and appeared used. Loud music blared from speakers near the lake, the only nice part of the place but too noisy to enjoy.
We could not stay. We told the manager we were leaving and he simply ignored us.
Please don't consider staying here unless your alternative is sleeping in your car, and maybe not even then.

My family and several families from our team stayed here for our week at Cooperstown. The property could be beautiful but it looks like hoarders own it. There is clutter, dust and mildew everywhere. The common areas are very hot and our room was as well despite a window air conditioner. The staff were nothing but wonderful! The girls that were in charge of cleaning were professional and polite. I witnessed the owner being rude to his staff on different occasions. We chose not to eat at the restaurant because of the condition of the property and the smell. There were dogs and cats in the lobby area and cat feces visible. There was also unsecured paperwork and information in the lobby area likely related to past and present reservations. The outside area is cluttered and looks unorganized with equipment from past catering or events scattered throughout the property. I would suggest wearing water shoes as the swimming area is not maintained. My daughter cut her foot on broken glass.
I would not recommend staying at the Lake House in Richfield Springs. It's a shame too because the setting is so beautiful.

My friends and I have been coming here and fishing for about 12 years. I just brought my boys and my wife and they all loved it. My wife couldn't stop saying how clean everything was. Love this place!

We took a dear friend who is like a father to my granddaughter for an early Father's Day Sunday lunch by Lake Canadarago. The weather was great we ate then sat by the water to enjoy the passing boats. The restaurant is rustic and has lodging available. The food was very good with average price for lunch. Around $10-13. The service was not the best. It could have been just our waitress. Some of the others seemed more attentive. We used a Groupon for the meal and had no problems. They have a summer concert series which I've heard is good.
