For as big as Rochester is, it probably only has a handful of "good" restaurants. This one is above that- If you are a true foodie and appreciate your food, this is the place to go.

SO disappointed with the service here. Jordan started out pushy as our server but when we found a hair in our burger that didn't translate into a "rush order" for the kitchen.

Instead, the kitchen took 30 minutes to cook the burger but it was shipped out to another table! (A table that ordered a black bean burger...hope they aren't vegetarian!) then Jordan returned to ask if, after the wait, we still wanted the burger. We said yes and another 30 minutes went by...turns out the burger takes 12-15 minutes to cook.

When it was finally delivered we asked for the manager and were given the cook. The cook offered us dessert and when we declined on account of the bad service, he said it was "duly noted" and turned his back on us and left.

In the end, Jordan never returned to our table and another server closed out the check. As servers ourselves we were shocked at this rude behavior and that no real manager was running this place, on a Saturday night no less.

Very disappointed in the people and the service.

I had the pleasure of visiting Zeppa with my husband and another couple who are good friends of ours. Our meal experience was incredible:

The waiter, Brian, was excellent. He was very friendly, made great suggestions, and went out of his way to chat with us a few times. If you happen to go to Zeppa, see if you can get Brian -- impeccable service!

The food was also excellent. We had a special of calamari as an appetizer which was delicious. Also unique -- light and refreshing, perfect for a starter. For our main meals, two of us had the lamb chops with the white bean salad (the white bean salad was definitely a standout on this dish), one of us had the pork chops (the rainbow chard! I wish I could cook it like that at home!), and the other had linguine and shrimp carbonara. We all shared bites, so I was able to try everyone's meal. When our friend asked what the crispy capers were on another dish, Brian (our waiter) offered to add them to the shrimp carbonara dish. Do this if you like capers.

Everyone was very happy with their meal. What was even better was that the portion sizes for us were just right -- we weren't stuffed, and we certainly weren't hungry. We were satisfied with well prepared, inventive, delicious dishes.

But then Brian read off the dessert menu, and we all decided we couldn't pass up the lavender creme brulee. One member of our party is a self-proclaimed creme brulee expert, ordering it everywhere possible that she can with dinner because she loves it so much. She proclaimed this possibly the best she's ever eaten (although one she had in France was up there in the rankings).

We also had a few cocktails -- two of us ordering the Rosemary Citrus Gimlet. Perfect way to end a wonderful evening with friends and amazing food.

The only disadvantage Zeppa has is in their atmosphere. The room is somewhat cave-like - the space isn't inviting, and I feel this could be an easy fix for them. However, the atmosphere can be quickly overlooked by the food.

Restaurants like this are rare in Rochester -- so please try to get out and visit this one so this gem of a place continues to offer fine dining to our small area!

Located under an historic auditorium that goes back to the 1900's Zeppa adds to the list of Restaurants and speakseasys that have occupied these digs. The menu has various selections that are sure to please all palates. The duck was exquisite. The menu also includes wonderful draft beer and wine selections. The wait staff was friendly and very attentive. I highly recommend Zeppa for a night out or a romantic occasion.

We've been to Zeppa a couple times, both with groups of friends. On both visits, the food was amazing and the server was friendly and helpful. Everything we've tried on the menu has been delicious (get the polenta fries as an appetizer), and there are plenty of vegetarian options. I would definitely recommend Zeppa if you're looking for a nice dinner with friends.
