Description: “Look forward, never back” was a philosophy firmly instilled in Silas Masih, Chef & owner of Denmark’s Pepper & Salt Restaurant at Forest Hill Vineyard, by his first adoptive mother. Growing up in the loving & nurturing Indian community of Fiji has given him a sense of family, community, attachment and discipline. Silas credits Fiji with teaching him that food is about communal pleasure and that simple foods enhanced with flavourful spices can create the finest of meals. To Silas food is soulful, intimate, fulfilling and sexy. Silas’ food focus is using locally-sourced produce and simple techniques to give his dishes the texture and subtle spice of his Fijiian-Indian heritage. His wish is that each and every guest that walks through the door is treated like his family and leaves feeling nurtured, nourished and with a sense of joy. “Food is an experience, a journey, that should be shared with friends & family in a fun & vibrant atmosphere. It’s all about love, heritage & flavour to me"

We visited Pepper and Salt for Fathers Day lunch and were warmly greeted upon our arrival. This is the type of customer service we have missed whilst being in Denmark. During the meal we were accommodated to our every need and although we have food allergies (which makes it difficult to eat out) our family was so well looked after and we really felt we had the best meal experience in a very long time. I know it was silly visiting restaurant that specialises in seafood with a seafood allergy but usually I am happy to eat just something off the menu non seafood related. The chef came out and ensured I was well catered for in all three courses. the food is magnificent and the flavours are unique. I had such a positive restaurant experience with all of my family leaving well fed and feeling happy. Thank you so much to Silas and his staff at Pepper and Salt we will be returning to your beautiful restaurant next time we visit Denmark.

What a disappointment after reading the reviews and being recommended by the staff at our resort we were looking forward to trying Pepper and Salt. The food was average and overpriced for the quality. I ordered the fried Morton bay bug with turmeric cauliflower and coconut prawns. My bug was greasy and lost all sweetness as it was overpowered by oil and battery the cauliflower was stone cold and there was one tiny prawn...my husband had the tapas plate which was ok but not fantastic. After mains I asked for another glass of wine, the waitress grunted and walked away...20 minutes later we had to ask for the wine and the waitress looked like she had no idea why we were annoyed. So pretty much the evening was underwhelming.

What can one say, the ambiance of the chef's knowledge of the spices was beyond compare. Incorporating the mysterious spices within any dish takes in a lifetime of learning, to make ones pallet want more of such exotic cuisine. The wine's from the Forrest Hill Vinyard, suited every dish served by the hosts Silas (Chef exstradanaire) and wife Angela. We thank you for the experience sincerely Paul and Mary-Ellen
