“Conveyor Belt Food and Fun”

My family and I went to the East Japanese restaurant on the fourth floor of the Palisades Center mall and enjoyed our meal immensely.

Various different types of sushi spin around on a conveyor belt leaving it up to you to choose what you would like to eat. The color of the plates determine how much each plate will cost. These conveyor belt plates are supplemented by a menu with soups, gyoza, and dumplings, and many others.

This is a really fun place to take kids, but it's also a ton of fun if it's just two adults. I would highly recommend coming here but be careful, the plates pileup fast and so does the bill. A winner.

We ate at East for years. We were often at the mall to see a movie or to shop, and sushi was convenient, not greasy, as light a meal as you would want it to be, and not expensive. It was never fine food at East, but decent enough--and there is quite a variety on the menu. We enjoyed the sushi carousel, but you can order any sushi, roll, or sashimi and it comes fast. The service was always fine and we got friendly with them since we ate there fairly often.
We hadn't been for a few months and decided to try it yesterday...What a change! For an inexpensive place, I always thought that their sushi rice was decent... but it didn't taste the same---it was really blah. And that really affects the taste of the sushi and rolls. Actually nothing tasted quite right..
Unfortunately, we're probably not going back. There was too much wrong.. and with raw fish, you don't want to take a chance.

We've had dinner here a few times, our most recent today (August 2015). Carousel sushi is always fun, in the US or in Japan, but the comparison ends there. If you come in looking for authentic sushi prepare to be disappointed, but if you come in looking for a great experience and a decent meal then you'll enjoy East.

First the sushi: most of it is non-authentic, including various rolls you won't find in Japan. However, if you're careful you can find excellence - the salmon toro was great, as was the Spanish mackerel and yellowtail. The tuna- well, let's just say it tasted like it had been frozen and thawed a few times.

There is a good lunch specials menu Mon - Fri: to supplement the sushi we ordered the set with Katsu-don and udon, both were really good and freshly made, highly recommended.

Overall a fun time, we left full and satisfied. A great spot for lunch as long as you're ok to lay down $70 for 3 people, in this case we had no regrets (besides the tuna- hopefully a one-off supplier issue).

The first thing you will notice about this place is the sushi conveyer belt. While the lighting is kind of dark do not overlook this place. They have a pretty extensive menu with lots of great choices. I had the mini shoyu ramen bowl and some sushi from the conveyer belt, great salmon toro. My wife had the lunch special chicken teriyaki bento box, seriously for $10 that thing was packed full of food she could not even finish it. Also we had our favorite, eel rolls. The rice on the sushi was warm like it is supposed to be, sushi rice is not supposed to be served cold. Will definitely be coming back hear.

Sushi on a conveyor belt. Prices are reasonable. If you want anything other than pretty standard sushi, you need to order it special. Ginger dressing on the salad was watery though. I did see the sushi guys occasionally take "older" sushi off the belt and trash it - that was reassuring. Overall - good; I would return.
