I've read and heard mixed reviews about artisanal but we wanted to give it a try for ourselves. The decor inside has a rustic feel and very well decorated.
Our experience started w specialty cocktails. I had The cucumber and basil drink made w vodka and that drink will be my new go to drink. The server was so kind to even take it upon herself to get me the recipe from the bartender with how much of each ingredient they used. Really went above and beyond.
Next we started with fresh yeast rolls straight out of the oven sever on a mini cast iron pan. They were outstanding! We even got a 2nd order to share between the 4 of us. Some of the best bread I've ever had.
We shared the octopus appetizer which was a medley of various flavors. Great choice!
For dinners we had the ahi , halibut and duck. Everyone was very pleased w their selection. I think the duck was the favorite thou.
Dessert was a marscapone tart and it was ok. I would have been ok skipping dessert.
I do not know the name of our server but she was on top of everything. Very knowledgeable on each plate. She was very pleasant and friendly and added to our exceptional dining experience.
We all were talking about how much we all thoroughly enjoyed our dining at artisanal and we will be back.

Artisanal is not on the beaten path, but it is certainly worth seeking out. It was one of the best meals I have ever had. The lamb tenderloin was absolutely delicious. And the pimiento cheese scones were melt in your mouth.

Good, but not worth $133 with tip good. Our local high end Japanese place and the Melting Pot (we live in SC and drove over two hours to try this place) is better. We'd go to those places first before returning here. That said, this is one of those one-time dining experience everyone should try once. Just maybe not more than that.
Here's how the experience breaks down:
Atmosphere: 5/5 stars (if you sit on the porch by the stream, but not if you sit inside. Be sure to reserve your seat outside and bring a sweater.)
Bread: 5/5 stars
Crab fritters: 5/5 stars.
Entree: 3/5 stars mediocre to kind of good. We had the duck and lamb. Not worth the price. Kind of bland. I can cook up tastier fare in my kitchen. And if you don't order an appetizer and an extra side with it you'll go home hungry. Entrees are more appetizer-sized.
Potatoes side dish: 3/5 stars. It's just roasted potatoes like you make at home with a little butter. Nothing special. Not sure why the $7 charge.
Dessert: 1/5 stars. Had the Rum dish. Not good at all. You'd be better off picking up a tub of Ben and Jerry's on the way home for half the price.
Wait staff -- 3/5 stars. We had better service recently at Steak and Shake. Lackadaisical waitress was nice and knowledgeable, but slacked off half way through our dinner and disappeared. After dropping off our dinners she vanished, and we had to flag down other folks to bring us stuff like extra sauce for the lamb, without which it had almost no flavor. (In all fairness, the other waitstaff we saw seemed to be attentive and involved with their tables.)
Bummer because we wanted to leave early enough to watch the sun set in the mountains on the drive back. But we got stuck on her schedule, so that wasn't happening. After leaving us sitting for 10 minutes after our dinners were taken away, another waitress finally brought our dessert menu. Our waitress showed up about 10 minutes after that. We had her get the bill and bring it right to us because we weren't sure when we'd ever see her again and paid before the dessert got to the table just so we'd have a way to leave.
Overall good, but nothing like the hype. Certainly not best in NC great as some websites have rated it. Heck, Harper's in Charlotte, NC's SouthPark is better and half the price. It's built to serve the local golf club that's packed with high-end Charlotte second homers and retirees. You get the sense that it's more about being seen at a 5-star restaurant than eating 5-star food.

This is a fantastic venue for a very special Dinner. The atmosphere is so inviting. If you love DIY and old barns you will love to see the amazing attention to detail in every nook and cranny. Make sure to explore! The food is outstanding! The Service, Outstanding! Make sure to make reservations in advance and remember no jeans or shorts.

The crab fritters were tasty but the rolls were the star of the start of this meal! The bite size yeast rolls were to die for!!! The salad was straight from the garden fresh with a perfect dressing. We had the ribeye cap steak with fresh veggies. So far so good so let's order desserts right? Don't- both the pineapple cake and chocolate were dry and tasteless - waste of $
