I went to UNC and have stayed at the Carolina Inn many times. My family has also stayed there for football games, graduation and other events. It is an excellent place to stay if you're visiting Carolina to visit the school, go to a game, check out Chapel Hill or any other reason. It is right in the center of Campus/Franklin Street and within walking distance of everything. I was there recently for a wedding (that was actually in the Inn) and it was great because we were able to walk to bars afterwards without hearing the ladies complain in their heels! The rooms are spacious and very clean, the beds are comfortable and the best part of the whole experience are the warm chocolate chip cookies you get at check-in. Everyone is very nice and helpful, I got in late and checked my bag at the front desk because I was late for the wedding bar night on Friday evening. Definitely would recommend staying here.

First -- yes, it's really all about location, location, location. And for that, the Inn would get five thumbs up. If you want to stay IN Chapel Hill, instead of a highway hotel, this is really the only choice. But, you do pay the price for that location, both literally and figuratively. So, yeah, there might be a couple of beer cups blown under your car from the fraternity house across the street ... and, don't worry, you'll get used to their thumping speakers in the afternoons. And, by the way, do the frat boys ever play a song that was recorded after 1980? Anyways, when you walk in the door of the Inn it only takes one look at the decorations to realize that, yup, this is a chick place. So deal with it, OK? Our room was small (or is that quaint?) and the bathroom smaller. Good bed, great TV. And the free wifi? Well, it would have been a crime if they made you pay for it. Based on the speed, the only thing missing was the sound of the handshake from an aol dial-up account. There was construction going on next door, but the noise wasn't too bad. Looks like that project has a few more months to go since it's barely out of the ground. Self-park will cost you $12 a day, but that's the reality of this location and really not that bad given that there's no on street alternatives. The car guys were very attentive, in fact, down right nice. And there's that location thing again -- a short walk to Franklin Street and anything you need on the UNC campus. So -- it's a tough call, stay in a first-class hotel a couple miles away from the campus and hunt for a parking space everytime you run into Chapel Hill ... or stay at (yeah, your grandmother's) Inn for its character and, uh, charms.

Room Tip: Avoid the 240-250 even rooms, they're right over the front entry and above the car guys.

I stayed here one night on business at the university and was very pleased. Staff very friendly, hotel lobby open and airy and rooms small but well kept. Breakfast buffet is not to be missed. Hotel has eco-friendly policy which I appreciated.

This is a good hotel for the location. Most of the common areas are top notch and enjoyable, but the rooms seem a bit worn and tired. Maybe a little overpriced for the quality of the rooms.

Thanks for your kind complements and for your feedback on our traditional rooms. We are excited to announce that we will be renovating all remaining guest rooms that were not completed in Phase 1 starting later this year. We anticipate that by mid-2013 all of our guest rooms will have been completely renovated. In the meantime, thanks for staying with us during your visit to Chapel Hill!

Beautiful little hotel with all the southern charms. Pleasant and cheerful staff. Only stayed one night but would loved to have been there longer.

At full rate, my expectations might have been a little higher but at the Priceline rate, this was a perfect experience.

Room Tip: At full rate the hotel is a little pricey. Check out Priceline in non-prime time dates. Priceline...
