The location of this hotel is second to none, about 6 minutes from the entrance of the Chimney Rock Park. But what's more surprising is to be able to find this JEWEL in an area where most hotels/inns are rather informal and with limited amenities.

The architecture and materials used to built the hotel are kind of unique - the hotel was rebuilt after fire/flooding many years ago, and the work was meant to preserve the original historic architecture and charm.

The rooms are very comfortable. If you're lucky to get one overlooking the park, even better (although...good luck sleeping: you're going to be staring out the window all night long: the view is stunning!).

What I enjoyed the most was the restaurant. The menu changes quite a bit, so you never get tired of it. If you're into healthy eating, don't miss the parfait with fruits in the mornings. And please: go out and sit at the outdoor terrace just outside the main dining room: you will have Chimney Rock right in front of you.

I stayed for 4 days and was able to try different restaurants in the area: I can assure you none of them comes close to the quality of the dinner in this hotel, so look no more. I strongly recommend trying the trout...uhmmmm!

Before dinner the Chef offers wine and tasty hors d' oeuvres. Nice surprise when you come back from a full day hiking and need a snack before taking a shower and having dinner.

I also enjoyed the outdoor jacuzzi (I'm sure the cars passing by enjoyed the view as well..). Again, yet another detail that differentiates this place from the rest of the hotels in the area.

Very friendly staff, willing to assist you with tourist information and guidance.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms overlooking Chimney Rock park.

What a great review! Thank you. This is a beautiful area and the Inn is part of the history and personality of the surroundings. We've been here a long time! After the fire, the Inn was rebuilt, keeping the flavor of the old Inn, but updated and with some improvements. Like private baths in each room! The Jacuzzi and fireplace are popular spots after a day of hiking and exploring.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Restaurant. We have a great staff! Chef George is very creative and works hard to make this the best Restaurant in the area. The Deck is open, time to come enjoy dinner with us again!

We very much appreciate your comments. The Inn is home to us and it's very gratifying to hear that our guests have had a good time and want to return. Thank you.

I have been meaning to write this review for a long time. We stayed here last summer to take the kids up to Chimney Rock and explore the area. The Esmerelda was our choice due to its location and the many excellent reviews here on Tripadvisor. The property is just beautiful - the gardens, flowers, etc. are meticulously kept. The lobby was impressive, with the natural wood banister and comfortable leather sofas - very cozy. Our room was beautiful, with a big comfy bed and well appointed bathroom. There was not a proper closet, but a rack was provided for anything that needed hanging. We were not in the room much, so its small size did not bother us at all. The inn has so many wonderful common areas to explore and enjoy. The upstairs gameroom has fantastic views of Chimney Rock - just beautiful. There is a big screen TV, pool table, games, etc., as well as access to the balcony to enjoy the view outside. There is a small hot tub and fireplace area in the back of the property as well. In the morning we were treated to the most delicious complementary breakfast I have ever had. The blueberry muffins were to die for as well as the quiche (two kinds). There was also cereal, fruit and yogurt. The entire place was immaculately clean and staff were polite and helpful ( I remember Scout especially). Would not hesitate to stay again and am looking for an opportunity to return.

Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to write a great review. It's been almost a year. Time to come back! We want every guest's experience to be one of relaxation and fun. I'm glad you had time to enjoy all the Inn has to offer. The Jacuzzi is open for the season and everything is in bloom. This is a great time to visit the Gorge. We'll light the fire outside and you can relax after a day of hiking or fishing or shopping or relaxing on the front porch.

You don't need an excuse to come! We hope to see you again soon.

Recently organized a Corporate Retreat for 12 couples over a weekend. We stayed, ate, and entertained ourselves on site without driving anywhere. The staff was gracious in their service, the Inn has all the aminities you could ask for, and the food was delicious (special menu Saturday night with brunch on Sunday). From the welcome baskets to the personlized signage, we were very well taken care of. Would highly recommend to couples, families, or business organizations needing a restful retreat in the mountains.

Thank you for the great review! We love having groups stay with us. With 14 rooms, we're just the right size for small retreats and gatherings. Groups give us the chance to do something extra, like the baskets. We have the capability to do business meetings as well as family reunions.
I'm glad your Retreat was a success. Please come back as a group or for your personal retreat to the mountains!

We planned to stay just one night but it is such a beautiful place we stayed two nights! The room was wonderful with the balconey view of the chimney rock. The bed was very comfortable, wifi provided, breakfast provided, and a lovely dining room for dinner. The staff were very helpful and kind. We will have lovely memories of this special hotel. The day trip to Biltmore House with snow falling was extra special and well worth the visit as it is a beautiful magnificient property.

March is a great time to visit. The weather may be a little unpredictable, but the area isn't crowded and things are starting to bloom.
We're glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return often, to make more memories!

My sister and I made our second trip to this historic inn. The weather was good for late March and the day it rained we we able to sit by the fire and read. The beds felt even more comfortable than the last time! We were able to drink our wine on the front porch the first night. You can see the flag on top or Chimney Rock. There are tons of day trips to make also from hiking to going over to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Doug, the owner, Sharon, the general manager, Joey, our waiter when we ate a super dinner of trout, Scout who did everything for us from finding a postcard with a drawing of the inn (if you go be sure to find the tiny cars in the lower left of the card) to getting ice and making a special trip downstairs to get a luggage chart for us. Karen in houseeeping was also helpful getting the cart when we left andf kept our room sparkling. The whole inn is sparkling. We had a chance to enjoy the "game room" also this trip and enjoyed those amenities also. But all good things had to come to an end...but to quote Arnold 'I'll be back!". On the wall of the dining room there is a quote "Come as a guest, leave as a friend". How true! Thanks to everyone.

Room Tip: The rooms all have great views, the corner rooms have windows with different views, one over a rocky...
