We stayed here for our 7th Anniversary and found this home to be a one of a kind hideout. The hostesses, Joe and Mary White, direct descendents of the original Whites of Hertford, welcomed us like dear old friends. Each morning we awoke to the scent of a gourmet breakfast cooking , served with loving care with the utmost attention to presentation and fresh fruit parfaits all homemade by Mrs. White. In the afternoon, we were offered Lemon Pie to compliment our relaxed meanderings around this rescue farm. Tending to newborn baby goats, amidst bold sunsets, we relaxed to a state of mind we'd long forgotten. Tours of the Great Dismal Swamp, the waterfront in Edenton, to Layden's Country Store(dear friends of the Whites)kept us intrigued with a mixture of history and excitement. If you want to relax in a home away from home, offset with exciting adventures surrounding the area, this is the place.

Room Tip: We loved our room, the Hunt Room, and would love to stay in any one of the Whites beautifully decorated rooms. Each room has a theme, ours being horses with family pictures that take you back into time.

The B&B is a beautiful Victorian house on a working farm. Great for learning about the Tidewater area. My daughter loved the farm animals. Quiet and comfortable, with amazing breakfast. Our room was very charmingly furnished in a sheep theme, another source of delight for my young daughter.

What a pleasure to write a glowing recommendation for this picturesque B&B. The accommodations were better than we have ever experienced. The working farm provided lots to learn about, from family history to animal husbandry. Mary White is a history buff and welcoming hostess, not to mention an incredible cook! She even shared a bag of her freshly roasted peanuts with us "for the road." She made us, along with our 2 dogs, feel very much at home in her home.

We have just returned from our second visit to Springfield B&B. The home has been in the same family since the 1890's and the pride and love is evident everwhere. My family has stayed in all of the rooms which are beautifully decorated with antiques and comfortable chairs. The mattresses are exceptional. The private bathrooms are clean and modern with sinks built into antique furniture. Large supplies of towels are tucked in the drawers. The rooms have individual refrigerators stocked and replenished with water and sodas.
Now the food! They serve a fabulous breakfast. Their hens supply the fresh eggs. The biscuits and muffins are freshly made and piping hot. Every meal is accompanied with some delicious fruit combination. Mary is a talented and trained chef.
There is a homemade dessert served late afternoon but available anytime - strawberry cake, buttermilk pie, yum! Mary and Joe have not overlooked any detail to make this a luxurious place to stay. We are planning our next visit soon.
