This was one of the highlights of our trip to Highlands, along with the waterfalls and great dining. We visited on a Saturday and toured the art gallery and shopped for hand-crafted gifts in the attached gift shop. The Bascom is also an educational center, with classes and lectures and other learning experiences for all ages. On the day we visited, we were lucky enough to be there during a special pottery sale, and we loaded up on gifts for friends and family and items for our own home. Everyone was personable, helpful, cheerful. I really enjoyed The Bascom.

What catches your eyes is the covered bridge. Let's Stop! It's not old but is the main entrance to The Bascom. A beautiful building with modern rural art outside and 3 levels of galleries. There is a separate building for local artist to learn and perfect there pottery skills. The have workshops and private lessons as well. Worth the stop over. The have a small cafe inside with sandwiches, salads, and coffee.

The covered bridge brought us to a serene setting of mixed media art. Metal sculpture, pottery, paint and paper, were all there to enjoy. If children are with you (or even if they are not), be sure to take the nature trail. Very nice gift shop.

There is a lot going on at the wonderful site. We toured the iron art exhibit and were very interest in the pottery which was beautiful. Would love to come back when we have more time. The covered bridge was cool!
