As our tram pulled up at Southport we noticed a smiling waitress at the open doors of this clean Vietnamese cafe. The bright decor, our liking for Vietnamese food, and convenient location inspired us to spontaneously visit Pho 333. The young ladies who served us were friendly and attentive. The menu is simple which makes it easy to navigate and superb value for money! The 3 of us enjoyed two entrees dishes and two traditional coffees in an ice crush with a soft drink all for only $19. For a quick, clean, tasty Vietnamese treats experience Pho 333 is hard to beat. Impressive opening hours (10am - 10 pm 7 days), handy location and friendly staff is a winning recipe for us. The bonus was our welcome with a taste offering of spring roll from the girl with the tasting tray (and big smile) at the front doors. Very genuine and much appreciated.

There is one thing that is sorely lacking in Southport, and for that matter on the Gold Coast, and that is a good Vietnamese Pho. There are a couple of restaurants around the area including a couple of food outlets in the nearby Australia Fair Shopping Centre, serving Pho but sadly their versions of the dish are all arguably average or worse.

So when we discovered this restaurant recently, we were extremely keen to give it a go.

First the positives:
1. The prices for most dishes are very reasonable. $10 for a Pho.
2. The Pho was quite a large serving, with a generous amount of noodles.
3. The staff were welcoming and friendly.
4. They were very accommodating to our requests for things like extra meat, etc. (Naturally we paid for this).

Now, the negatives:
1. Sadly the Pho falls short of what I would consider a quality Pho.
2. We did not receive any bean sprouts, basil or sliced chilli on the side, as is customary with the dish.

The above said, the Pho - if you view it as a generic 'beef noodle soup' rather than a Pho - was actually quite pleasing. It was tasty and we went away satisfied.

All in all, while I would not recommend this restaurant for its Pho (especially not to Pho-connoisseurs), it is decent enough to dine there. In fact, I am aiming to do precisely that soon.
