Description: Found high up on the Blue Ridge of the Appalachian Mountains, "The Tropical Grill" is here to give you an unexpected dining experience. As you exit off the Blue Ridge Parkway at Spruce Pine, NC, go to "Upper Street" in downtown Spruce Pine, across from the Wells Fargo Bank. Tropical Dishes from around the world... Not found anywhere in the mountains and in some cases nowhere else in the Continental United States, unique and original. Dishes from Central America, Colombia, Cuba, the Caribbean, Asia and of course all your favorite Country Style American Home Cookin'. Lunch and dinner includes a full deli and grill with our Philly cheese steak, ruebens, burgers, paninis, Cuban sandwiches and our famous "Riveria". Tropical selections for lunch and dinner include: Fish Tacos, a complete vegetarian and gluten free selection, our famous Tropi-chop platter, Pollo ala Plancha, Steak Argentina and our popular Quesadillas. We have a full line of salads, including our Caribbean salad, our Asian salad and our Greek Salad. Our Quatro Leche dessert cake is to die for! Dine in or take out. Catering is our specialty. PURCHASE OUR GUATEMALAN IMPORT PRODUCTS TO HELP SEND PROCEEDS TO THE MISSIONS IN GUATEMALA. By purchasing our Import products, you are helping the Guatemalan people in many ways. First you help put monies into the Mayan economy. This provides economic opportunities for entire villages that otherwise have very little hope. Secondly, proceeds from your purchase go back to the missions in Guatemala that provide a much needed medical service and supply. But most important, understand it is our primary task to reach each Guatemalan with the "Good News" of the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Menu has a great variety of dishes from Colombia, Argentina, Cuba, Mexico etc. excellent Cuban sandwich - something to do with their mustard recipe. Also had a asada Colombia and one the nicest tasting steaks. Highly recommend this place!!! Looks like the chef supports mission programs and some small craft business at these countries. They have a variety of handmade bags and jewelry on display to support these small industries in Latin American countries.

A sweet lady who runs the general store in Little Switzerland asked us if we liked "unique" food then mentioned this gem. We were not disappointed. Friendly, efficient Columbian waitress, fun atmosphere, colorful boutique and terrific meal choices. I highly recommend the Mango Char broiled Shrimp with sides of seasoned spanish rice and plantains with guave sauce. Best meal I've had in a long time. This PA lady says compliments to the chef!

Delicious Jerk Chicken, black beans, rice, yucca and plantains. Best Caribbean food we have had north of Miami! Great outdoor dining. Owner was super nice and extremely helpful. We will be back!

My wife & I were told about this restaurant while enjoying a meal in TN ( we'll drive an hour for a great meal!). Having never heard of it, I looked it up on TripAdvisor and immediately decided to make it our mission to drive to Spruce Pine to check it out ourselves, as we are HUGE fans of Cuban food! We were greeted by Claudia who works with the customers, and then by her husband, Sam, who does the cooking~ both warm and friendly husband and wife owners.
The restaurant itself is small, very clean and extremely casual , with a few tables inside the air conditioned space and 6 picnic tables outside facing the road and the parking lot .
To start, we enjoyed their colorful tortilla chips and delicious salsa. Our appetizer, Tostones ( fried green plantains) was served with Sour Cream & Guacamole. I'd never seen it served with those sides, but it was all delicious together.
For our entree's, we enjoyed the Tropi Chopi Platter with Shredded Pork , and the Pollo a La Plancha (pressed & grilled chicken breast) with sides of sweet Plantains and Black Beans & Rice with grilled onions. The pork and the chicken were so tender! Everything had so much flavor. For dessert , we had the Flan. The entree portions are large, so we took home leftovers, which we enjoyed that night for dinner. The prices are reasonable. We went for lunch during the week and will definitely return with friends from Boone, so others can find out about this fun & delicious spot.

This little sidewalk restaurant was a suggestion by a fellow visitor to the area. We had an amazing dinner. I had the tilapia with rice, black beans and plantains. My husband had grilled chicken sandwich. The beautiful Colombian women working there gave us her suggestions and they were on point! I wish I lived closer, we'd dine there often! Can't wait until I'm back in the area again to go back!
