My husband and I have rafted several times and since we were in town with friends who had never rafted we wanted to take them. We used Carolina Outfitters because they could accommodate a later rafting time as we had plans that morning. They worked with our schedule and I really appreciate that. Their safety briefing was the most thorough I've ever seen, without being overdone. Ali, our guide, was very professional, pleasant and pointed out different land marks as we rafted...just an overall great guide. She even made a point to pull the raft over and make sure the photographer was there before we went over the falls. We had a great experience on the water and when we went down the falls at the end 3 people fell out of our raft, one of those 3 was a man in our party. Everyone got back in the boat safely and we were all fine. We couldn't wait to get back and see the pictures of him flying out of the raft. We watched the screen as it rotated the pics for about 30 mins. Then Ali came in and started looking for them. When she asked the guy who I think was the manager if the pics of our raft were taken he said, "Nope. There wasn't enough time or people." A picture really is worth a thousand words and needless to say we were very, very disappointed not to have it and by the nonchalant attitude regarding it not being taken. As much as I enjoyed every other aspect of this company I'm not sure I would use them again. For some people rafting is a once in a lifetime experience and not getting a picture of a once in a lifetime experience is just no good.
Went out on the river with,an awsome guide, Tim. He was full of local knowledge which made the adventure even more enjoyable. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. The Nantahala delivered an exciting ride. Our group had 3 first time whitewater rafters and they could not have been happier. I am with a Scout troop and this is our fourth year with Carolina outfitters. I highly recommend this group of wonderful people to take you on an adventure down the Nantahala River. If its cold outside, I recommend renting a wetsuit. It is well worth the extra money. Bring a change of clothes because you will get wet. We will be back again
Carolina Outfitters took our 7-member family out last week and while it was pretty cold, it didn't matter because we had a lot of fun. We were especially lucky to have Su as our guide. He was really knowledgeable about the area and was sharing a lot of information as we went down the river. He even had a great recommendation for lunch (Hoppy Trout in Andrews, NC).
The guided tour was a great way to go and the trip had a good combination of easy and more challenging rapids. I do recommend getting a wet suite if it's a colder day.
This was our first time whitewater rafting. We (2 adults and a 12 and 15 year old) had a great experience. Everyone there was super friendly and helpful. Jeff was an awesome guide. We look forward to doing it again!
We also did gem mining. It was fun and interesting for the kids. The best part was of gem mining was talking with Neil. He was so accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable!
The Nantahala River is a lovely river to raft especially on a Wednesday at the end of the season. Less crowds, beautiful scenery. Would recommend a guide as they are very familiar with the river and will entertain you with spinning the raft, pinballing the raft off rock, and point out stunning vistas. Our raft guide was Patrick. He was very professional and concerned with safety. A few years ago, we took a raft trip with another outfitter and all the guide did was call out to guides in other rafts asking where they were going to party later that night.
Yesterday, we (2 adults, 2 teens) went rafting with this company - it was the perfect combination of easy and slightly challenging rapids. The fall colors were beautiful, our guide was friendly and really informative. Two definite recommendations: go with a guide, they make it more fun; and RENT THE BOOTIES! If you don't, your feet will be numb and your whole body will be so cold from the water that is on the floor of raft. We had a great experience at a reasonable price! Highly recommend this!
